|
사람은 누구나 위에서 다스리는 권위에 복종해야 합니다. 하느님에게서 나오지 않는 권위란 있을 수 없고, 현재의 권위들도 하느님께서 세우신 것입니다.

▶ Let every person be subordinate to the higher authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been established by God.

|
그러므로 권위에 맞서는 자는 하느님의 질서를 거스르는 것이고, 그렇게 거스르는 자들은 스스로 심판을 불러오게 됩니다.

▶ Therefore, whoever resists authority opposes what God has appointed, and those who oppose it will bring judgment upon themselves.

사실 지배자들이란 악행을 할 때에나 두렵지 선행을 할 때에는 두렵지 않습니다. 그대는 권위를 두려워하지 않기를 바랍니까? 선을 행하십시오. 그러면 권위로부터 인정을 받을 것입니다.

▶ For rulers are not a cause of fear to good conduct, but to evil. Do you wish to have no fear of authority? Then do what is good and you will receive approval from it,

지배자는 그대의 이익을 위하여 일하는 하느님의 일꾼입니다. 그러나 그대가 악을 행할 경우에는 두려워하십시오. 그들은 공연히 칼을 차고 있는 것이 아닙니다. 그들은 악을 저지르는 자에게 하느님의 진노를 집행하는 그분의 일꾼입니다.

▶ for it is a servant of God for your good. But if you do evil, be afraid, for it does not bear the sword without purpose; it is the servant of God to inflict wrath on the evildoer.

그러므로 하느님의 진노 때문만이 아니라 양심 때문에도 복종해야 합니다.

▶ Therefore, it is necessary to be subject not only because of the wrath but also because of conscience.

여러분이 조세를 바치는 것도 이 때문입니다. 그들은 바로 이러한 일에 정성을 다하는 하느님의 심부름꾼입니다.

▶ This is why you also pay taxes, for the authorities are ministers of God, devoting themselves to this very thing.

|
여러분은 모든 이에게 자기가 해야 할 의무를 다하십시오. 조세를 내야 할 사람에게는 조세를 내고 관세를 내야 할 사람에게는 관세를 내며, 두려워해야 할 사람은 두려워하고 존경해야 할 사람은 존경하십시오.

|
아무에게도 빚을 지지 마십시오. 그러나 서로 사랑하는 것은 예외입니다. 남을 사랑하는 사람은 율법을 완성한 것입니다.

▶ Owe nothing to anyone, except to love one another; for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law.

“간음해서는 안 된다. 살인해서는 안 된다. 도둑질해서는 안 된다. 탐내서는 안 된다.”는 계명과 그 밖의 다른 계명이 있을지라도, 그것들은 모두 이 한마디 곧 “네 이웃을 너 자신처럼 사랑해야 한다.”는 말로 요약됩니다.

▶ The commandments, "You shall not commit adultery; you shall not kill; you shall not steal; you shall not covet," and whatever other commandment there may be, are summed up in this saying, (namely) "You shall love your neighbor as yourself."

또한 여러분은 지금이 어떤 때인지 알고 있습니다. 여러분이 잠에서 깨어날 시간이 이미 되었습니다. 이제 우리가 처음 믿을 때보다 우리의 구원이 더 가까워졌기 때문입니다.

▶ And do this because you know the time; it is the hour now for you to awake from sleep. For our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed;

밤이 물러가고 낮이 가까이 왔습니다. 그러니 어둠의 행실을 벗어 버리고 빛의 갑옷을 입읍시다.

▶ the night is advanced, the day is at hand. Let us then throw off the works of darkness (and) put on the armor of light;

대낮에 행동하듯이, 품위 있게 살아갑시다. 흥청대는 술잔치와 만취, 음탕과 방탕, 다툼과 시기 속에 살지 맙시다.

▶ let us conduct ourselves properly as in the day, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in promiscuity and licentiousness, not in rivalry and jealousy.

그 대신에 주 예수 그리스도를 입으십시오. 그리고 욕망을 채우려고 육신을 돌보는 일을 하지 마십시오.
