유다 임금 요시야의 아들 여호야킴이 다스리던 때에, 주님께서 예레미야에게 내리신 말씀.

▶ This word came to Jeremiah from the LORD in the days of Jehoiakim, son of Josiah, king of Judah:
|

“레캅 집안에 가서 그들에게 말하고, 그들을 주님의 집 어느 한 방으로 데리고 들어가 포도주를 마시게 하여라.”

|
▶ Approach the Rechabites and speak to them; bring them into the house of the LORD, to one of the rooms, and give them wine to drink.
|

그래서 나는 하바친야의 손자이며 예레미야의 아들인 야아잔야와 그의 형제들과 그의 모든 아들과 온 레캅 집안 사람들을 데려다가,

▶ So I went and brought Jaazaniah, son of Jeremiah, son of Habazziniah, his brothers and all his sons, the whole company of the Rechabites,

주님의 집에 있는 방으로 인도하였다. 그 방은 하느님의 사람 익달야의 아들인 하란의 아들들이 쓰고 있었는데, 그 옆은 대신들의 방이었고 그 밑은 살룸의 아들이며 문지기인 마아세야의 방이었다.

▶ into the house of the LORD, to the room of the sons of Hanan, son of Igdaliah, the man of God, next to the princes' room, above the room of Maaseiah, son of Shallum, keeper of the doorway.

그때 내가 레캅 집안 사람들에게 포도주가 가득 담긴 술 단지와 잔들을 내놓고, 그들에게 포도주를 마시라고 권하였다.

▶ I set before these Rechabite men bowls full of wine and offered them cups to drink the wine.
|
|

그러자 그들은 이렇게 말하였다. “우리는 포도주를 마시지 않습니다. 우리 조상 레캅의 아들 여호나답께서 우리에게, ‘너희와 너희 아들들은 영원히 포도주를 마시지 마라.’ 하고 명령하셨기 때문입니다.

▶ "We do not drink wine," they said to me: "Jonadab, Rechab's son, our father, forbade us in these words: 'Neither you nor your children shall ever drink wine.
|

|
그분은 또 ‘집도 짓지 말고 씨앗도 뿌리지 말며 포도밭을 가꾸거나 갖지도 말고, 그 대신 평생 천막에서 지내라. 그래야 너희가 나그네로 사는 이 땅에서 오래도록 살 수 있을 것이다.’ 하고 말씀하셨습니다.

▶ Build no house and sow no seed; neither plant nor own a vineyard. You shall dwell in tents all your life, so that you may live long on the earth where you are wayfarers.'

|
우리는 우리 조상 레캅의 아들 여호나답께서 우리에게 명령하신 모든 말씀에 순종하여, 우리 자신과 아내와 아들딸들이 평생 포도주를 마시지 않습니다.

|
▶ Now we have heeded Jonadab, Rechab's son, our father, in all his prohibitions. All our lives we have not drunk wine, neither we, nor our wives, nor our sons, nor our daughters.

|
또한 살림집도 짓지 않고, 포도원과 밭과 씨앗도 가지고 있지 않습니다.

▶ We build no houses to live in; we own no vineyards or fields or crops,
|
|

|
우리는 천막에서 지내며, 우리 조상 여호나답께서 우리에게 명령하신 모든 말씀에 순종하고 그것을 실천하고 있습니다.

|
▶ and we live in tents; we obediently do everything our father Jonadab commanded us.
|

|
우리는 바빌론 임금 네부카드네자르가 이 나라를 쳐 올라왔을 때, 칼데아 군대와 아람 군대를 피하여 예루살렘으로 올라가야겠다고 생각하였습니다. 그래서 우리는 예루살렘에 살고 있는 것입니다.”

▶ But when Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, invaded this land, we decided to come into Jerusalem to escape the army of the Chaldeans and the army of Aram; that is why we are now living in Jerusalem."

그때에 주님의 말씀이 예레미야에게 내렸다.

▶ Then this word of the LORD came to Jeremiah:

만군의 주 이스라엘의 하느님께서 이렇게 말씀하신다. “너는 유다 사람들과 예루살렘 주민들에게 가서 말하여라. ‘너희는 끝내 교훈을 받아들이지도 않고, 내 말을 듣지도 않을 작정이냐? 주님의 말씀이다.

▶ Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Go, say to the men of Judah and to the citizens of Jerusalem: Will you not take correction and obey my words? says the LORD.
|

|
레캅의 아들 여호나답이 그의 자손들에게 포도주를 마시지 말라고 명령했는데, 그들은 이 말을 잘 지켜 이날까지 포도주를 마시지 않았다. 참으로 그들은 자기네 조상들의 명령에 순종했던 것이다. 그러나 너희는 내가 너희에게 그토록 줄곧 일렀는데도 나에게 순종하지 않았다.

|
▶ The advice of Jonadab, Rechab's son, by which he forbade his children to drink wine, has been followed: to this day they have not drunk it; they obeyed their father's command. Me, however, you have not obeyed, although I spoke to you untiringly and insistently.

|
나는 너희에게 잇달아 나의 종인 예언자들을 모두 보내면서, 저마다 제 악한 길에서 제발 돌아서라고, 너희 행실을 고치고, 다른 신들을 섬기러 그것들을 좇아가지 말라고 일렀다. 그래야 내가 너희와 너희 조상들에게 준 땅에서 살 수 있으리라고 하였으나, 너희는 내게 귀를 기울이지도 않았고 나에게 순종하지도 않았다.

▶ I kept sending you all my servants the prophets, telling you to turn back, all of you, from your evil way; to reform your conduct, and not follow strange gods or serve them, if you would remain on the land which I gave you and your fathers; but you did not heed me or obey me.

레캅의 아들 여호나답의 자손들은 자기네 조상들이 내린 명령을 지켰지만, 이 백성은 나에게 순종하지 않았다.

|
|
▶ Yes, the children of Jonadab, Rechab's son, observed the command which their father laid on them; but this people does not obey me!
|

─ 그러므로 만군의 주 이스라엘의 하느님께서 이렇게 말씀하신다. ─ 보라, 내가 유다와 예루살렘의 모든 주민에게 그들을 거슬러 선고한 온갖 재앙을 내린다. 내가 그들에게 일렀지만 그들이 나에게 순종하지 않았고, 내가 그들을 불렀지만 그들이 대답하지 않았기 때문이다.’”

▶ Now, therefore, says the LORD God of hosts, the God of Israel: I will bring upon Judah and all the citizens of Jerusalem every evil that I threatened; because when I spoke they did not obey, when I called they did not answer.

그러고 나서 예레미야는 레캅 집안에게 말하였다. “만군의 주 이스라엘의 하느님께서 이렇게 말씀하신다. ‘너희는 너희 조상 여호나답의 명에 순종하고 그의 모든 명령을 지켰으며, 그가 명한 모든 것을 그대로 실천하였다.

▶ But to the company of the Rechabites Jeremiah said: Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Since you have obeyed the command of Jonadab, your father, kept all his commands and done everything he commanded you,

─ 그러므로 만군의 주 이스라엘의 하느님께서 이렇게 말씀하신다. ─ 레캅의 아들 여호나답에게서 언제나 내 앞에 서 있을 자가 끊어지지 않을 것이다.’”

▶ thus therefore says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Never shall there fail to be a descendant of Jonadab, Rechab's son, standing in my service.
