When she was back with her mother-in-law, Naomi said to her, "My daughter, I must seek a home for you that will please you.

▶ 시어머니 나오미가 룻에게 말하였다. “내 딸아, 네가 행복해지도록 내가 너에게 보금자리를 찾아 주어야 하지 않겠느냐?
|

|
Now is not Boaz, with whose servants you were, a relative of ours? This evening he will be winnowing barley at the threshing floor.

|
▶ 그런데 네가 함께 있던 여종들의 주인인 보아즈는 우리 친족이 아니냐? 보아라, 그분은 오늘 밤 타작마당에서 보리를 까부를 것이다.
|

|
So bathe and anoint yourself; then put on your best attire and go down to the threshing floor. Do not make yourself known to the man before he has finished eating and drinking.

▶ 그러니 너는 목욕하고 향유를 바른 다음에 겉옷을 입고 타작마당으로 내려가거라. 그러나 그분이 먹고 마시기를 마칠 때까지 그분 눈에 띄어서는 안 된다.

But when he lies down, take note of the place where he does so. Then go, uncover a place at his feet, and lie down. He will tell you what to do."

▶ 그분이 자려고 누우면 너는 그분이 누운 자리를 알아 두었다가, 거기로 가서 그 발치를 들치고 누워라. 그러면 그분이 네가 해야 할 바를 일러 줄 것이다.”

"I will do whatever you advise," Ruth replied.

▶ 그러자 룻이 나오미에게 “저에게 말씀하신 대로 다 하겠습니다.” 하고 말하였다.

So she went down to the threshing floor and did just as her mother-in-law had instructed her.
|

▶ 그러고는 타작마당으로 내려가서 시어머니가 시킨 대로 다 하였다.
|
|

|
Boaz ate and drank to his heart's content. Then when he went and lay down at the edge of the sheaves, she stole up, uncovered a place at his feet, and lay down.

▶ 보아즈는 먹고 마시고 나서 흡족한 마음으로 보릿가리 끝에 가서 누웠다. 룻은 살며시 가서 그의 발치를 들치고 누웠다.
|

In the middle of the night, however, the man gave a start and turned around to find a woman lying at his feet.

▶ 한밤중에 그 남자가 한기에 몸을 떨며 웅크리는데, 웬 여자가 자기 발치에 누워 있는 것이었다.

He asked, "Who are you?" And she replied, "I am your servant Ruth. Spread the corner of your cloak over me, for you are my next of kin."

|
▶ 그래서 “너는 누구냐?” 하고 묻자, 그 여자가 “저는 주인님의 종인 룻입니다. 어르신의 옷자락을 이 여종 위에 펼쳐 주십시오. 어르신은 구원자이십니다.” 하고 대답하였다.

He said, "May the LORD bless you, my daughter! You have been even more loyal now than before in not going after the young men, whether poor or rich.
|

▶ 그러자 보아즈가 말하였다. “내 딸아, 너는 주님께 복을 받을 것이다. 네가 가난뱅이든 부자든 젊은이들을 쫓아가지 않았으니, 네 효성을 전보다 더 훌륭하게 드러낸 것이다.

|
So be assured, daughter, I will do for you whatever you say; all my townspeople know you for a worthy woman.
|

▶ 자 이제 내 딸아, 두려워하지 마라. 네가 말하는 대로 다 해 주마. 온 마을 사람들이 네가 훌륭한 여인이라는 것을 알고 있다.

Now, though indeed I am closely related to you, you have another relative still closer.
|

|
▶ 그런데 내가 구원자인 것은 사실이지만, 너에게는 나보다 더 가까운 구원자가 있다.
|

|
Stay as you are for tonight, and tomorrow, if he wishes to claim you, good! let him do so. But if he does not wish to claim you, as the LORD lives, I will claim you myself. Lie there until morning."

▶ 이 밤을 여기에서 지내라. 아침에 그가 너에게 구원 의무를 실행한다면, 좋다, 그렇게 하라지. 그러나 그가 만일 너에게 그 의무를 실행하려고 하지 않는다면, 주님께서 살아 계시는 한, 내가 너를 구원하마. 아침까지 여기에 누워 있어라.”

So she lay at his feet until morning, but rose before men could recognize one another. Boaz said, "Let it not be known that this woman came to the threshing floor."
|

|
▶ 그래서 룻은 이른 아침까지 그의 발치에 누워 있다가, 사람들이 서로 알아보기 전에 일어났다. “타작마당에 이 여자가 왔었다는 사실이 알려져서는 안 된다.”고 보아즈가 말하였기 때문이다.

|
Then he said to her, "Take off your cloak and hold it out." When she did so, he poured out six measures of barley, helped her lift the bundle, and left for the city.
|

▶ 그때에 보아즈가 “네가 쓴 너울을 이리 내어 붙잡고 있어라.” 하고 말하였다. 룻이 그것을 붙잡자 그는 보리 여섯 되를 퍼서 거기에 담아 주고 마을로 들어갔다.

Ruth went home to her mother-in-law, who asked, "How have you fared, my daughter?" So she told her all the man had done for her,

▶ 룻이 시어머니에게 오자 “내 딸아, 어떻게 되었느냐?” 하고 시어머니가 물었다. 룻은 그 남자가 자기에게 해 준 일을 모두 이야기하였다.

and concluded, "He gave me these six measures of barley because he did not wish me to come back to my mother-in-law emptyhanded!"

▶ 그리고 “‘시어머니에게 빈손으로 가서는 안 되지.’ 하시면서 이 보리 여섯 되를 저에게 주셨습니다.” 하고 말하였다.

Naomi then said, "Wait here, my daughter, until you learn what happens, for the man will not rest, but will settle the matter today."

▶ 그러자 나오미가 말하였다. “내 딸아, 일이 어떻게 될지 알게 되기까지 잠자코 있어라. 그분은 오늘 안으로 이 일을 결말짓지 않고는 가만히 있지 못할 것이다.”
