King Nebuchadnezzar had a golden statue made, sixty cubits high and six cubits wide, which he set up in the plain of Dura in the province of Babylon.

|
▶ 네부카드네자르 임금은 높이가 예순 암마, 너비가 여섯 암마 되는 금 상을 만들어, 바빌론 지방의 두라 평야에 세웠다.

|
He then ordered the satraps, prefects, and governors, the counselors, treasurers, judges, magistrates and all the officials of the provinces to be summoned to the dedication of the statue which he had set up.

|
|
|
|
▶ 그러고 나서 네부카드네자르 임금은 사람들을 보내어, 총독들, 태수들, 지방관들, 고문관들, 재무관들, 재판관들, 행정관들, 그리고 지방의 모든 관리를 모아서, 자기가 세운 상의 봉헌식에 참석하게 하였다.

The satraps, prefects, and governors, the counselors, treasurers, judges, and magistrates and all the officials of the provinces, all these came together for the dedication and stood before the statue which King Nebuchadnezzar had set up.

A herald cried out: "Nations and peoples of every language, when you hear the sound of the trumpet, flute, lyre, harp, psaltery, bagpipe, and all the other musical instruments,

▶ 전령이 큰 소리로 외쳤다. “민족들과 나라들, 언어가 다른 사람들이여, 그대들에게 내리는 명령이오.

you are ordered to fall down and worship the golden statue which King Nebuchadnezzar has set up.

|
|
|
▶ 뿔 나팔, 피리, 비파, 삼각금, 수금, 풍적 등 모든 악기 소리가 나거든 엎드려, 네부카드네자르 임금님께서 세우신 금 상에 절하시오.

Whoever does not fall down and worship shall be instantly cast into a white-hot furnace."

|
|
|
|
▶ 누구든지 엎드려 절하지 않으면, 곧바로 타오르는 불가마 속으로 던져질 것이오.”
|
|

|
Therefore, as soon as they heard the sound of the trumpet, flute, lyre, harp, psaltery, bagpipe, and all the other musical instruments, the nations and peoples of every language all fell down and worshiped the golden statue which King Nebuchadnezzar had set up.

At that point, some of the Chaldeans came and accused the Jews
|

▶ 그때에 어떤 칼데아인들이 나서서 악의로 유다인들을 고발하였다.

to King Nebuchadnezzar: "O king, live forever!
|

|
|
|
|
|
▶ 그들이 네부카드네자르 임금에게 말하였다. “임금님께서 만수무강하시기를 빕니다.
|
|

|
O king, you issued a decree that everyone who heard the sound of the trumpet, flute, lyre, harp, psaltery, bagpipe, and all the other musical instruments should fall down and worship the golden statue;

|
▶ 임금님, 임금님께서는 칙령을 내리시어, 뿔 나팔, 피리, 비파, 삼각금, 수금, 풍적 등 모든 악기 소리가 나면, 누구나 엎드려 금 상에 절하라고 하셨고,

whoever did not was to be cast into a white-hot furnace.
|

|
|
|
|
▶ 또 누구든지 엎드려 절하지 않으면, 타오르는 불가마 속으로 던져질 것이라고 하셨습니다.
|
|

|
There are certain Jews whom you have made administrators of the province of Babylon: Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego; these men, O king, have paid no attention to you; they will not serve your god or worship the golden statue which you set up."

|
|
▶ 그런데 임금님께서 바빌론 지방의 일을 맡도록 임명하신 유다 사람들이 있습니다. 곧 사드락, 메삭, 아벳 느고입니다. 임금님, 이 사람들은 임금님께 경의를 표하지도 않고 임금님의 신들을 섬기지도 않으며, 임금님께서 세우신 금 상에 절을 하지도 않습니다.”

Nebuchadnezzar flew into a rage and sent for Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who were promptly brought before the king.
|

▶ 그러자 네부카드네자르는 몹시 화가 나서, 사드락과 메삭과 아벳 느고를 끌어 오라고 분부하였다. 이 사람들이 임금 앞으로 끌려오자,

King Nebuchadnezzar questioned them: "Is it true, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, that you will not serve my god, or worship the golden statue that I set up?

▶ 네부카드네자르가 그들에게 물었다. “사드락, 메삭, 아벳 느고! 너희가 나의 신들을 섬기지도 않고 또 내가 세운 금 상에 절하지도 않는다니, 그것이 사실이냐?

Be ready now to fall down and worship the statue I had made, whenever you hear the sound of the trumpet, flute, lyre, harp, psaltery, bagpipe, and all the other musical instruments; otherwise, you shall be instantly cast into the white-hot furnace; and who is the God that can deliver you out of my hands?"

▶ 이제라도 뿔 나팔, 피리, 비파, 삼각금, 수금, 풍적 등 모든 악기 소리가 날 때에 너희가 엎드려, 내가 만든 상에 절할 준비가 되어 있다면 몰라도, 그렇지 않으면 곧바로 타오르는 불가마 속으로 던져질 것이다. 그러면 어느 신이 너희를 내 손에서 구해 낼 수 있겠느냐?”

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered King Nebuchadnezzar, "There is no need for us to defend ourselves before you in this matter.
|

▶ 사드락과 메삭과 아벳 느고가 네부카드네자르 임금에게 대답하였다. “이 일을 두고 저희는 임금님께 응답할 필요가 없습니다.

If our God, whom we serve, can save us from the white-hot furnace and from your hands, O king, may he save us!
|

|
|
|
|
|
▶ 임금님, 저희가 섬기는 하느님께서 저희를 구해 내실 수 있다면, 그분께서는 타오르는 불가마와 임금님의 손에서 저희를 구해 내실 것입니다.

|

|
But even if he will not, know, O king, that we will not serve your god or worship the golden statue which you set up."
|
성경 ▼
|
|
|
|
|
▶ 임금님, 그렇게 되지 않더라도, 저희는 임금님의 신들을 섬기지도 않고, 임금님께서 세우신 금 상에 절하지도 않을 터이니 그리 아시기 바랍니다.”
|

|
Nebuchadnezzar's face became livid with utter rage against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. He ordered the furnace to be heated seven times more than usual
|

|
|
|
|
▶ 그러자 네부카드네자르는 노기로 가득 찼다. 그리고 사드락과 메삭과 아벳 느고를 보며 얼굴 표정이 일그러지더니, 가마를 여느 때에 달구는 것보다 일곱 배나 더 달구라고 분부하였다.

|
and had some of the strongest men in his army bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego and cast them into the white-hot furnace.
|

|
|
|
|
▶ 또 군사들 가운데에서 힘센 장정 몇 사람에게, 사드락과 메삭과 아벳 느고를 묶어 타오르는 불가마 속으로 던지라고 분부하였다.

|
They were bound and cast into the white-hot furnace with their coats, hats, shoes and other garments,
|

|
|
|
|
▶ 그리하여 그 세 사람은 겉옷과 바지와 쓰개와 그 밖의 옷을 입은 채로 묶여서, 타오르는 불가마 속으로 던져졌다.

|

|
for the king's order was urgent. So huge a fire was kindled in the furnace that the flames devoured the men who threw Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego into it.

|
|
|
|
▶ 그런데 임금의 명령이 급박한 데다가 가마가 매우 뜨거웠으므로, 사드락과 메삭과 아벳 느고를 들어 올렸던 사람들이 불꽃에 타 죽고 말았다.

But these three fell, bound, into the midst of the white-hot furnace.
|

▶ 사드락과 메삭과 아벳 느고, 세 사람은 묶인 채로 타오르는 불가마 속으로 떨어졌다.

|
They walked about in the flames, singing to God and blessing the Lord.
|

|
|
▶ 그러나 그들은 하느님을 찬송하고 주님을 찬미하며 불길 한가운데를 거닐었다.
|

|
In the fire Azariah stood up and prayed aloud:
|

|
|
▶ 그리고 아자르야는 불 한가운데에 우뚝 서서 입을 열어 이렇게 기도하였다.

"Blessed are you, and praiseworthy, O Lord, the God of our fathers, and glorious forever is your name.
|

|
|
|
▶ “주 저희 조상들의 하느님, 찬미받으소서, 칭송받으소서. 당신의 이름은 영원히 영광 받으소서.
|
|

|
For you are just in all you have done; all your deeds are faultless, all your ways right, and all your judgments proper.
|

|
|
|
|
|
▶ 저희에게 하신 모든 일마다 당신께서는 의로우시고 당신께서 하신 일은 모두 진실하며 당신의 길은 다 올바릅니다. 당신의 판결은 모두 진실입니다.

|
You have executed proper judgments in all that you have brought upon us and upon Jerusalem, the holy city of our fathers. By a proper judgment you have done all this because of our sins;
|

|
|
|
▶ 그 모든 것을 저희에게, 저희 조상들의 거룩한 도성 예루살렘에 내리실 적에 당신께서는 진실하게 판정하셨습니다. 저희의 죄를 보시고 당신께서는 진실히 판결하시어 그 모든 것을 내리셨습니다.

|
For we have sinned and transgressed by departing from you, and we have done every kind of evil.
|

|
|
|
|
|
▶ 저희는 당신에게서 멀어져 죄를 짓고 법을 어겼습니다. 정녕 저희는 모든 일에서 큰 죄를 지었고 당신의 계명들에 순종하지 않았습니다.

|
Your commandments we have not heeded or observed, nor have we done as you ordered us for our good.
|

|
|
|
|
|
▶ 저희는 그것들을 따르지도 않고 잘되라고 저희에게 명령하신 대로 하지도 않았습니다.

|

|
Therefore all you have brought upon us, all you have done to us, you have done by a proper judgment.
|

|
|
|
|
|
▶ 그러므로 저희에게 내리신 그 모든 것, 저희에게 하신 그 모든 것을 당신께서는 진실한 판결에 따라 행하셨습니다.

|
You have handed us over to our enemies, lawless and hateful rebels; to an unjust king, the worst in all the world.
|

▶ 당신께서는 저희를 무도한 원수들, 가장 가증스러운 반역자들, 불의한 임금, 온 세상에서 가장 사악한 임금에게 넘기셨습니다.

|
Now we cannot open our mouths; we, your servants, who revere you, have become a shame and a reproach.
|

|
▶ 이제 저희는 입을 열 수도 없습니다. 당신의 종들과 당신을 경배하는 이들에게는 수치와 치욕뿐입니다.

|
For your name's sake, do not deliver us up forever, or make void your covenant.
|

Do not take away your mercy from us, for the sake of Abraham, your beloved, Isaac your servant, and Israel your holy one,

To whom you promised to multiply their offspring like the stars of heaven, or the sand on the shore of the sea.
|

▶ 당신께서는 그들의 자손들을 하늘의 별처럼, 바닷가의 모래처럼 많게 해 주시겠다고 약속하셨습니다.

|
For we are reduced, O Lord, beyond any other nation, brought low everywhere in the world this day because of our sins.
|

|
|
|
|
|
▶ 주님, 저희는 모든 민족들 가운데에서 가장 작은 민족이 되었습니다. 저희의 죄 때문에 저희는 오늘 온 세상에서 가장 보잘것없는 백성이 되고 말았습니다.

|
We have in our day no prince, prophet, or leader, no holocaust, sacrifice, oblation, or incense, no place to offer first fruits, to find favor with you.
|

▶ 지금 저희에게는 제후도 예언자도 지도자도 없고 번제물도 희생 제물도 예물도 분향도 없으며 당신께 제물을 바쳐 자비를 얻을 곳도 없습니다.

But with contrite heart and humble spirit let us be received;
|

▶ 그렇지만 저희의 부서진 영혼과 겸손해진 정신을 보시어 저희를 숫양과 황소의 번제물로, 수만 마리의 살진 양으로 받아 주소서.

|
As though it were holocausts of rams and bullocks, or thousands of fat lambs, So let our sacrifice be in your presence today as we follow you unreservedly; for those who trust in you cannot be put to shame.
|

And now we follow you with our whole heart, we fear you and we pray to you.

Do not let us be put to shame, but deal with us in your kindness and great mercy.

Now the king's men who had thrown them in continued to stoke the furnace with brimstone, pitch, tow, and faggots.
|

|
|
▶ 세 젊은이를 가마 속으로 던진 임금의 종들은, 석뇌유와 송진과 삼 부스러기와 나뭇가지로 끊임없이 가마에 불을 때었다.

The flames rose forty-nine cubits above the furnace,
|

|
|
|
|
▶ 그래서 불길이 가마 위로 마흔아홉 암마나 치솟아 오르고,

|
and spread out, burning the Chaldeans nearby.
|

|
|
|
|
▶ 또 옆으로도 퍼져 나와 가마 둘레에 있던 칼데아인들을 태워 버렸다.

|
But the angel of the Lord went down into the furnace with Azariah and his companions, drove the fiery flames out of the furnace,
|

|
|
|
|
|
▶ 그때에 주님의 천사가 가마 속 아자르야와 그의 동료들 곁으로 내려와서, 불길을 가마 밖으로 내몰고,

and made the inside of the furnace as though a dew-laden breeze were blowing through it. The fire in no way touched them or caused them pain or harm.

▶ 가마 복판을 이슬 머금은 바람이 부는 것처럼 만들었다. 그렇게 하여 그들은 불에 닿지도 않고 아프거나 괴롭지도 않았다.

Then these three in the furnace with one voice sang, glorifying and blessing God:

"But," he replied, "I see four men unfettered and unhurt, walking in the fire, and the fourth looks like a son of God."

Then Nebuchadnezzar came to the opening of the white-hot furnace and called to Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego: "Servants of the most high God, come out." Thereupon Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego came out of the fire.

When the satraps, prefects, governors, and nobles of the king came together, they saw that the fire had had no power over the bodies of these men; not a hair of their heads had been singed, nor were their garments altered; there was not even a smell of fire about them.

Nebuchadnezzar exclaimed, "Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who sent his angel to deliver the servants that trusted in him; they disobeyed the royal command and yielded their bodies rather than serve or worship any god except their own God.

Therefore I decree for nations and peoples of every language that whoever blasphemes the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego shall be cut to pieces and his house destroyed. For there is no other God who can rescue like this."
