Hear the word of the LORD, O people of Israel, for the LORD has a grievance against the inhabitants of the land: There is no fidelity, no mercy, no knowledge of God in the land.

▶ 이스라엘 자손들아 주님의 말씀을 들어라. 주님께서 이 땅의 주민들을 고소하신다. 정녕 이 땅에는 진실도 없고 신의도 없으며 하느님을 아는 예지도 없다.

False swearing, lying, murder, stealing and adultery! in their lawlessness, bloodshed follows bloodshed.

▶ 저주와 속임수와 살인 도둑질과 간음이 난무하고 유혈 참극이 그치지 않는다.

|
Therefore the land mourns, and everything that dwells in it languishes: The beasts of the field, the birds of the air, and even the fish of the sea perish.

▶ 그러므로 이 땅은 통곡하고 온 주민은 생기를 잃어 간다. 들짐승과 하늘의 새들 바다의 물고기들마저 죽어 간다.

But let no one protest, let no one complain; with you is my grievance, O priests!

▶ 그러나 아무도 고소하지 말고 아무도 고발하지 마라. 사제야, 바로 내가 너를 고소한다.

|
You shall stumble in the day, and the prophets shall stumble with you at night; I will destroy your mother.

|
|
|
▶ 낮에는 네가 비틀거리고 밤에는 예언자가 너와 함께 비틀거리리라. 내가 너의 어미를 망하게 하리라.

My people perish for want of knowledge! Since you have rejected knowledge, I will reject you from my priesthood; Since you have ignored the law of your God, I will also ignore your sons.

▶ 나의 백성은 예지가 없어 망하리라. 네가 예지를 배척하니 나도 너를 배척하여 사제직을 수행하지 못하게 하리라. 네가 네 하느님의 가르침을 잊었으니 나도 너의 자녀들을 잊으리라.

One and all they sin against me, exchanging their glory for shame.

▶ 그들이 많아질수록 이렇듯 나에게 죄를 지었으니 나도 그들의 영광을 수치로 바꾸어 버리리라.

|
They feed on the sin of my people, and are greedy for their guilt.

▶ 그들은 내 백성의 속죄 제물을 먹고 살며 내 백성이 죄짓기만 간절히 바란다.

|
The priests shall fare no better than the people: I will punish them for their ways, and repay them for their deeds.

▶ 백성도 사제도 똑같이 되리라. 나는 그들이 걸어온 길에 따라 벌하고 그들의 행실에 따라 갚으리라.

They shall eat but not be satisfied, they shall play the harlot but not increase, Because they have abandoned the LORD
|

▶ 그들은 먹어도 배부르지 않고 불륜을 저질러도 자손이 불어나지 않으리라. 그들이 주님을 저버리고

to practice harlotry. Old wine and new deprive my people of understanding.

|
▶ 불륜에 빠졌기 때문이다. 그들은 포도주와 햇포도주에 마음을 빼앗겨 버렸다.

|
They consult their piece of wood, and their wand makes pronouncements for them, For the spirit of harlotry has led them astray; they commit harlotry, forsaking their God.

▶ 내 백성이 저마다 제 나무에게 묻고 그 가지가 대답을 하니 창녀기가 그들을 그릇 이끌어 자기 하느님을 버리고 불륜을 저지르게 하였다.

On the mountaintops they offer sacrifice and on the hills they burn incense, Beneath oak and poplar and terebinth, because of their pleasant shade. That is why your daughters play the harlot, and your daughters-in-law are adulteresses.

▶ 그들은 산꼭대기에서 희생 제물을 바치고 언덕 위에서 분향하며 그늘이 좋다고 참나무와 은백양과 향엽나무 아래에서도 분향한다. 너희 딸들은 불륜을 저지르고 너희 며느리들은 간음을 한다.

Am I then to punish your daughters for their harlotry, your daughters-in-law for their adultery? You yourselves consort with harlots, and with prostitutes you offer sacrifice! So must a people without understanding come to ruin.

▶ 너희 딸들이 불륜을 저지른다고 너희 며느리들이 간음을 한다고 내가 그들을 벌하지는 않으리라. 남자들이 창녀들과 함께 빗나가고 신전 창녀들과 함께 희생 제물을 바치기 때문이다. 철없는 백성은 망하고 만다.

Though you play the harlot, O Israel, let not Judah become guilty! Come not to Gilgal, nor up to Beth-aven, to swear, "As the Lord lives!"

▶ 이스라엘아, 너희는 불륜을 저지른다 하여도 유다만은 잘못을 저지르지 말게 하여라. 너희는 길갈로 가지도 말고 벳 아웬으로 올라가지도 마라. “주님께서 살아 계시는 한 …….” 하며 맹세하지도 마라.

For Israel is as stubborn as a heifer; will the LORD now give them broad pastures as though they were lambs?

▶ 고집 센 암소처럼 정녕 이스라엘은 고집이 세다. 그러니 주님이 어찌 그들을 어린 양처럼 넓은 곳에 놓아 기를 수 있겠느냐?

Ephraim is an associate of idols, let him alone!

▶ 에프라임은 우상들과 한패가 되었으니 그대로 버려두어라.

When their carousing is over, they give themselves to harlotry; in their arrogance they love shame.
|

|
▶ 술잔치가 끝나고 나면 그들은 언제나 불륜을 저지르면서 자기들의 자랑스러운 분보다 수치를 더 좋아한다.

The wind has bound them up in its pinions; they shall have only shame from their altars.
