온갖 말로 애써 말하지만 아무도 다 말하지 못한다. 눈은 보아도 만족하지 못하고 귀는 들어도 가득 차지 못한다.

▶ and I applied my mind to search and investigate in wisdom all things that are done under the sun. A thankless task God has appointed for men to be busied about.

나는 속으로 말하였다. ‘보라, 나는 내 이전에 예루살렘에서 통치하던 모든 분들보다 지혜를 크게 하고 더하였으며 내 마음은 수많은 지혜와 지식을 익혔다.’

나는 지혜와 지식, 우둔과 우매를 깨치려고 내 마음을 쏟았다. 그러나 이 또한 바람을 붙잡는 일임을 깨달았다.
