Then the LORD told Moses, "One more plague will I bring upon Pharaoh and upon Egypt. After that he will let you depart. In fact, he will not merely let you go; he will drive you away.

▶ 주님께서 모세에게 말씀하셨다. “나는 이제 파라오와 이집트에 한 가지 재앙을 더 내리겠다. 그런 다음에야 그가 너희를 이곳에서 내보낼 것이다. 그가 너희를 내보낼 때에는 아예 너희를 모조리 이곳에서 내쫓을 것이다.

Instruct your people that every man is to ask his neighbor, and every woman her neighbor, for silver and gold articles and for clothing."

▶ 백성에게 일러, 남자는 이웃 남자에게, 여자는 이웃 여자에게 은붙이와 금붙이를 요구하게 하여라.”

The LORD indeed made the Egyptians well-disposed toward the people; Moses himself was very highly regarded by Pharaoh's servants and the people in the land of Egypt.

▶ 주님께서는 이스라엘 백성이 이집트인들에게 호감을 사도록 해 주셨다. 그리고 이 모세라는 사람은 이집트 땅에서 파라오의 신하들과 백성의 눈에 위대한 인물로 보였다.

Moses then said, "Thus says the LORD: At midnight I will go forth through Egypt.

▶ 모세가 말하였다. “주님께서 이렇게 말씀하십니다. ‘내가 한밤중에 이집트 가운데로 나아가겠다.

|
Every first-born in this land shall die, from the first-born of Pharaoh on the throne to the first-born of the slave-girl at the handmill, as well as all the first-born of the animals.

▶ 왕좌에 앉은 파라오의 맏아들부터 맷돌 앞에 앉은 여종의 맏아들까지 이집트 땅의 맏아들과, 짐승의 맏배들이 모조리 죽을 것이다.

Then there shall be loud wailing throughout the land of Egypt, such as has never been, nor will ever be again.
|

▶ 그러면 이집트 온 땅에서 이제까지도 없었고 앞으로도 없을 큰 곡성이 터질 것이다.
|

|
But among the Israelites and their animals not even a dog shall growl, so that you may know how the LORD distinguishes between the Egyptians and the Israelites.
|

▶ 그러나 이스라엘 자손들에게는 개조차 짖지 않을 것이다. 사람에게나 짐승에게나 그러할 것이다. 이는 주님이 이집트인들과 이스라엘인들을 구분하였음을 너희가 알게 하려는 것이다.’

|
All these servants of yours shall then come down to me, and prostrate before me, they shall beg me, 'Leave us, you and all your followers!' Only then will I depart." With that he left Pharaoh's presence in hot anger.

▶ 이렇게 되면 임금님의 신하들이 모두 내려와 저에게 엎드려, ‘그대와 그대를 따르는 백성은 모두 떠나가 주시오.’ 하고 말할 것입니다. 그제야 저는 떠나가겠습니다.” 모세는 노기에 차 파라오에게서 물러 나왔다.

The LORD said to Moses, "Pharaoh refuses to listen to you that my wonders may be multiplied in the land of Egypt."

▶ 주님께서 모세에게 말씀하셨다. “파라오는 너희 말을 듣지 않을 것이다. 이는 나에게 이집트 땅에서 더 많은 기적을 이루게 하려는 것이다.”

Thus, although Moses and Aaron performed these various wonders in Pharaoh's presence, the LORD made Pharaoh obstinate, and he would not let the Israelites leave his land.

▶ 모세와 아론은 파라오 앞에서 이 모든 기적을 일으켰다. 그러나 주님께서는 파라오의 마음을 완고하게 하셨다. 그리하여 파라오는 이스라엘 자손들을 자기 땅에서 내보내지 않았다.
