Then the LORD said to Moses, "Go to Pharaoh and tell him: Thus says the LORD, the God of the Hebrews: Let my people go to worship me.
|

▶ 주님께서 모세에게 말씀하셨다. “파라오에게 가서, ‘주 히브리인들의 하느님께서 이렇게 말씀하십니다.’ 하고 그에게 일러라. ‘내 백성을 내보내어 나를 예배하게 하여라.

If you refuse to let them go and persist in holding them,
|

▶ 네가 그들을 내보내기를 거부하고 계속 그들을 붙잡아 둔다면,

|
I warn you, the LORD will afflict all your livestock in the field - your horses, asses, camels, herds and flocks - with a very severe pestilence.
|

|
|
▶ 주님의 손이 들에 있는 너의 집짐승들, 말과 나귀와 낙타와 소와 양을 지독한 흑사병으로 칠 것이다.

|
But the LORD will distinguish between the livestock of Israel and that of Egypt, so that none belonging to the Israelites will die."
|

|
▶ 그러나 주님은 이스라엘의 집짐승과 이집트의 집짐승을 구분하여, 이스라엘 자손들의 것은 하나도 죽지 않게 할 것이다.’”

And setting a definite time, the LORD added, "Tomorrow the LORD shall do this in the land."
|

▶ 그리고 주님께서는 “주님이 내일 이 땅에서 이 일을 이룰 것이다.” 하시며 때를 정하셨다.

|
And on the next day the LORD did so. All the livestock of the Egyptians died, but not one beast belonging to the Israelites.
|

|
▶ 이튿날 주님께서 이 말씀대로 하셨다. 이집트의 집짐승들은 모두 죽고, 이스라엘 자손들의 집짐승들은 한 마리도 죽지 않았다.

|
But though Pharaoh's messengers informed him that not even one beast belonging to the Israelites had died, he still remained obdurate and would not let the people go.

▶ 파라오는 사람을 보내어, 이스라엘의 집짐승은 한 마리도 죽지 않은 것을 확인하였다. 그러나 파라오는 마음이 완강해져 백성을 내보내지 않았다.

Sixth Plague: the Boils

Then the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, "Take a double handful of soot from a furnace, and in the presence of Pharaoh let Moses scatter it toward the sky.

▶ 주님께서 모세와 아론에게 말씀하셨다. “너희는 가마에 있는 그을음을 두 손 가득히 쥐어라. 그리고 모세가 그것을 파라오 앞에서 공중으로 뿌려라.

It will then turn into fine dust over the whole land of Egypt and cause festering boils on man and beast throughout the land."

|
▶ 그리하여 그것이 먼지가 되어 이집트 온 땅에 퍼져 나가, 이집트 온 땅에 있는 사람과 짐승에게 궤양을 일으키는 종기가 되게 하여라.”

|
So they took soot from a furnace and stood in the presence of Pharaoh. Moses scattered it toward the sky, and it caused festering boils on man and beast.

▶ 그들은 가마에 있는 그을음을 쥐고 파라오 앞에 섰다. 모세가 그것을 공중으로 뿌리니, 사람과 짐승에게 궤양을 일으키는 종기가 되었다.

|
The magicians could not stand in Moses' presence, for there were boils on the magicians no less than on the rest of the Egyptians.

|
▶ 요술사들과 모든 이집트인에게 종기가 생겨, 요술사들도 종기 때문에 모세 앞에 서 있을 수가 없었다.

|
But the LORD made Pharaoh obstinate, and he would not listen to them, just as the LORD had foretold to Moses.
|

▶ 그러나 주님께서 파라오의 마음을 완고하게 하셨으므로, 그는 그들의 말을 듣지 않았다. 주님께서 모세에게 말씀하신 대로였다.

Seventh Plague: the Hail

Then the LORD told Moses, "Early tomorrow morning present yourself to Pharaoh and say to him: Thus says the LORD, the God of the Hebrews: Let my people go to worship me,

▶ 주님께서 모세에게 말씀하셨다. “너는 아침 일찍 일어나 파라오 앞에 나서서, ‘주 히브리인들의 하느님께서 이렇게 말씀하십니다.’ 하고 그에게 말하여라. ‘내 백성을 내보내어 나를 예배하게 하여라.

|
or this time I will hurl all my blows upon you and your servants and your subjects, that you may know that there is none like me anywhere on earth.
|

▶ 이번에는 내가 온갖 재앙을 너 자신과 너의 신하들과 백성들에게 내려, 온 세상에 나와 같은 신이 없음을 네가 알게 하겠다.

|
For by now I would have stretched out my hand and struck you and your subjects with such pestilence as would wipe you from the earth.
|

▶ 진작 나는 손을 내뻗어 너와 너의 백성을 흑사병으로 쳐서, 네가 이 세상에서 사라지게 해 버릴 수도 있었다.

|
But this is why I have spared you: to show you my power and to make my name resound throughout the earth!
|

|
▶ 그렇지만 나는 까닭이 있어 너를 살려 두었다. 너에게 내 능력을 보이고, 온 세상에 내 이름을 떨치게 하려는 것이다.

|
Will you still block the way for my people by refusing to let them go?

|
▶ 그런데 너는 계속 내 백성을 거만하게 대하면서, 그들을 내보내려 하지 않는다.

|
I warn you, then, tomorrow at this hour I will rain down such fierce hail as there has never been in Egypt from the day the nation was founded up to the present.
|

|
▶ 그러므로 나는 내일 이 시간에, 이집트가 생긴 날부터 지금까지 한 번도 내린 적이 없는 엄청난 우박을 쏟아붓겠다.

|
Therefore, order all your livestock and whatever else you have in the open fields to be brought to a place of safety. Whatever man or beast remains in the fields and is not brought to shelter shall die when the hail comes upon them."

▶ 그러니 이제 사람을 보내어 너의 집짐승과 들에 있는 너의 모든 것을 안전한 곳으로 옮겨라. 미처 집 안으로 들어오지 못하고 들에 남은 사람이나 짐승은 모두 우박에 맞아 죽을 것이다.’”

Some of Pharaoh's servants feared the warning of the LORD and hurried their servants and livestock off to shelter.

▶ 파라오의 신하들 가운데 주님의 말씀을 두려워한 자들은 제 종들과 집짐승들을 재빨리 집 안으로 피신시켰다.

|
Others, however, did not take the warning of the LORD to heart and left their servants and livestock in the fields.
|

|
|
▶ 그러나 주님의 말씀을 마음에 두지 않은 자들은 제 종들과 집짐승들을 그대로 들에 내버려 두었다.

|
The LORD then said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand toward the sky, that hail may fall upon the entire land of Egypt, on man and beast and every growing thing in the land of Egypt."

▶ 주님께서 모세에게 말씀하셨다. “네 손을 하늘로 뻗어라. 그리하여 우박이 이집트 온 땅에, 이집트 땅에 있는 사람과 짐승과 모든 풀 위에 내리게 하여라.”

|
When Moses stretched out his staff toward the sky, the LORD sent forth hail and peals of thunder. Lightning flashed toward the earth, and the LORD rained down hail upon the land of Egypt;

▶ 모세가 지팡이를 하늘로 뻗자, 주님께서 우레와 함께 우박을 내리셨다. 번갯불이 땅으로 떨어졌다. 주님께서 이집트 땅에 우박을 쏟으셨다.

and lightning constantly flashed through the hail, such fierce hail as had never been seen in the land since Egypt became a nation.
|

|
▶ 번갯불이 잇달아 번쩍이면서 우박이 내렸다. 이처럼 엄청난 우박은, 이집트에 나라가 선 뒤로 이집트 온 땅에 한 번도 내린 적이 없었다.

|
It struck down every man and beast that was in the open throughout the land of Egypt; it beat down every growing thing and splintered every tree in the fields.
|

|
|
|
▶ 이렇게 우박이 이집트 온 땅에서, 사람을 비롯하여 짐승에 이르기까지 들에 있는 모든 것을 쳤다. 들의 풀도 모조리 치고 들의 나무도 모조리 부러뜨렸다.

|
Only in the land of Goshen, where the Israelites dwelt, was there no hail.
|

|
|
▶ 그러나 이스라엘 자손들이 사는 고센 땅에만은 우박이 내리지 않았다.

|
Then Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said to them, "I have sinned again! The LORD is just; it is I and my subjects who are at fault.

▶ 파라오는 사람을 보내어 모세와 아론을 불러다 말하였다. “이번에는 내가 죄를 지었다. 주님께서는 옳으시고 나와 내 백성은 그르다.

|
Pray to the LORD, for we have had enough of God's thunder and hail. Then I will let you go; you need stay no longer."

|
|
▶ 주님께 기도해 다오. 우레와 우박이 너무 심하구나. 내가 너희를 내보내겠다. 더 이상 여기에 머무르지 않아도 된다.”

|
Moses replied, "As soon as I leave the city I will extend my hands to the LORD; the thunder will cease, and there will be no more hail. Thus you shall learn that the earth is the LORD'S.
|

▶ 그러자 모세가 그에게 말하였다. “제가 성읍을 나서는 대로 주님께 제 손을 펼치겠습니다. 그러면 우레가 멎고 우박이 더 이상 내리지 않을 것입니다. 이는 세상이 주님께 속한다는 것을 임금님께서 아시게 하려는 것입니다.

But you and your servants, I know, do not yet fear the LORD God."

▶ 그래도 임금님과 임금님의 신하들이 아직 주 하느님을 두려워하지 않으실 줄을 저는 알고 있습니다.”

|
Now the flax and the barley were ruined, because the barley was in ear and the flax in bud.

|
|
▶ 마침 보리는 이삭이 패고 아마는 꽃이 피어 있었으므로, 아마와 보리는 못 쓰게 되고 말았다.

|
But the wheat and the spelt were not ruined, for they grow later.
|

|
|
|
▶ 그러나 밀과 귀리는 늦게 나오는 것들이었으므로 못 쓰게 되지는 않았다.

|
When Moses had left Pharaoh's presence and had gone out of the city, he extended his hands to the LORD. Then the thunder and the hail ceased, and the rain no longer poured down upon the earth.

▶ 모세는 파라오에게서 물러나 성읍을 나와서, 주님께 손을 펼쳤다. 그러자 우레와 우박이 멎고, 땅에는 비가 더 이상 쏟아지지 않았다.

|
But Pharaoh, seeing that the rain and hail and thunder had ceased, sinned again: he with his servants became obdurate,
|

|
|
▶ 파라오는 비와 우박과 우레가 멎는 것을 보고 다시 죄를 지었다. 그와 그의 신하들의 마음이 또 완강해진 것이다.

|
and in his obstinacy he would not let the Israelites go, as the LORD had foretold through Moses.
|

▶ 파라오는 마음이 완고해져 이스라엘 자손들을 내보내지 않았다. 주님께서 모세를 통하여 말씀하신 대로였다.
