"Every command that I enjoin on you, you shall be careful to observe, neither adding to it nor subtracting from it.

▶ “내가 너희에게 명령하는 모든 말을 명심하여 실천해야 한다. 거기에 무엇을 보태서도 안 되고 빼서도 안 된다.

"If there arises among you a prophet or a dreamer who promises you a sign or wonder,

|
|
▶ 너희 가운데에서 예언자나 환몽가가 나타나 너희에게 표징이나 기적을 예고하고,
|
|

|
urging you to follow other gods, whom you have not known, and to serve them: even though the sign or wonder he has foretold you comes to pass,

▶ 그가 말한 표징이나 기적이 일어나더라도, 너희가 알지 못하는 ‘다른 신들을 따라가 그들을 섬기자.’ 하고 그가 말하거든,

pay no attention to the words of that prophet or that dreamer; for the LORD, your God, is testing you to learn whether you really love him with all your heart and with all your soul.

▶ 너희는 그 예언자나 환몽가의 말을 들어서는 안 된다. 그것은 주 너희 하느님께서, 너희가 마음을 다하고 목숨을 다하여 주 너희 하느님을 사랑하는지 알아보시려고 너희를 시험하시는 것이다.

The LORD, your God, shall you follow, and him shall you fear; his commandment shall you observe, and his voice shall you heed, serving him and holding fast to him alone.

▶ 너희는 주 너희 하느님을 따르고 그분을 경외해야 한다. 그분의 계명을 지키고 그분의 말씀을 들으며, 그분을 섬기고 그분께 매달려야 한다.

But that prophet or that dreamer shall be put to death, because, in order to lead you astray from the way which the LORD, your God, has directed you to take, he has preached apostasy from the LORD, your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt and ransomed you from that place of slavery. Thus shall you purge the evil from your midst.

▶ 그 예언자나 환몽가는 죽임을 당해야 한다. 그자들은 너희를 이집트 땅에서 이끌어 내시고 너희를 종살이하던 집에서 구해 내신 주 너희 하느님을 배반하라는 말을 하여, 주 너희 하느님께서 너희에게 따라 걸으라고 명령하신 길을 벗어나게 만들었기 때문이다. 이렇게 너희는 너희 가운데에서 악을 치워 버려야 한다.

"If your own full brother, or your son or daughter, or your beloved wife, or your intimate friend, entices you secretly to serve other gods, whom you and your fathers have not known,

▶ 너희의 동복형제나 너희의 아들이나 딸이나 너희 품의 아내나 너희 목숨과도 같은 친구가 은근히 너희를 꾀면서, 너희도 너희 조상들도 알지 못하던 '다른 신들을 섬기러 가자.' 하는 경우가 있을 것이다.

gods of any other nations, near at hand or far away, from one end of the earth to the other

▶ 그 신들은 땅의 한쪽 끝에서 다른 쪽 끝까지, 가까이 있든 멀리 있든, 너희 주위에 있는 민족들의 신이다.

do not yield to him or listen to him, nor look with pity upon him, to spare or shield him,
|

|
|
▶ 그런 경우에 너희는 그의 말을 받아들이지도 듣지도 말아야 한다. 그를 동정하지도 불쌍히 여기지도 말며 그를 감싸 주지도 말아야 한다.

but kill him. Your hand shall be the first raised to slay him; the rest of the people shall join in with you.

▶ 너희는 오히려 그를 반드시 죽여야 한다. 그를 죽일 때에는 너희가 먼저 손을 대고, 온 백성이 그 뒤를 따라야 한다.

You shall stone him to death, because he sought to lead you astray from the LORD, your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that place of slavery.

▶ 너희는 돌을 던져 그를 죽여야 한다. 그는 이집트 땅, 종살이하던 집에서 너희를 이끌어 내신 주 너희 하느님에게서 너희를 떼어 내려고 하였기 때문이다.

And all Israel, hearing of it, shall fear and never again do such evil as this in your midst.

▶ 그러면 온 이스라엘이 그 일을 듣고 두려워하여, 너희 가운데에서 다시는 그런 악한 짓을 저지르지 않을 것이다.

"If, in any of the cities which the LORD, your God, gives you to dwell in, you hear it said

▶ 주 너희 하느님께서 너희에게 살라고 주시는 성읍들 가운데 한 곳에서 들리는 말이,

|
that certain scoundrels have sprung up among you and have led astray the inhabitants of their city to serve other gods whom you have not known,

|
▶ 너희 가운데에서 불량한 자들이 나와 성읍 주민들을 유혹하며, 너희가 알지 못하던 ‘다른 신들을 섬기러 가자.’ 한다 하거든,

you must inquire carefully into the matter and investigate it thoroughly. If you find that it is true and an established fact that this abomination has been committed in your midst,

▶ 너희는 탐문하고 조사하고 심문해 보아야 한다. 그래서 너희 가운데에서 그런 역겨운 짓이 벌어졌다는 말이 사실로 드러나면,

you shall put the inhabitants of that city to the sword, dooming the city and all life that is in it, even its cattle, to the sword.

|
▶ 너희는 반드시 그 성읍 주민들을 칼로 쳐 죽이고, 성읍과 그 안에 있는 모든 것과 가축까지 칼로 전멸시켜야 한다.

|
Having heaped up all its spoils in the middle of its square, you shall burn the city with all its spoils as a whole burnt offering to the LORD, your God. Let it be a heap of ruins forever, never to be rebuilt.

▶ 그런 다음에 모든 노획물을 성읍의 광장 한가운데에 모아 놓고, 성읍과 모든 노획물을 불살라 주 너희 하느님께 통째로 바쳐야 한다. 그리고 그 성읍은 영원히 폐허 더미로 만들고 다시는 세우지 말아야 한다.

You shall not retain anything that is doomed, that the blazing wrath of the LORD may die down and he may show you mercy and in his mercy for you may multiply you as he promised your fathers on oath;

▶ 너희는 그 완전 봉헌물 가운데에서 아무것도 손을 대어서는 안 된다. 그래야 주님께서 당신의 진노를 푸시고 너희를 가엾이 여기시며, 너희 조상들에게 맹세하신 대로 너희를 가여워하시며 너희를 번성하게 해 주실 것이다.

because you have heeded the voice of the LORD, your God, keeping all his commandments which I enjoin on you today, doing what is right in his sight.

▶ 너희가 주 너희 하느님의 말씀을 듣고 내가 오늘 너희에게 명령하는 그분의 모든 계명을 지켜, 주 너희 하느님의 눈에 드는 옳은 일을 하면, 주님께서 그렇게 해 주실 것이다.”
