▶ and to the northern kings in the mountain regions and in the Arabah near Chinneroth, in the foothills, and in Naphath-dor to the west.

또 동쪽과 서쪽의 가나안족, 산악 지방의 아모리족, 히타이트족, 프리즈족, 여부스족, 미츠파 땅 헤르몬 산 밑의 히위족에게 전갈을 보냈다.

▶ These were Canaanites to the east and west, Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites and Jebusites in the mountain regions, and Hivites at the foot of Hermon in the land of Mizpah.

그들이 저희의 모든 군대를 거느리고 나오니, 병사들의 수가 바닷가의 모래처럼 많고 군마와 병거도 아주 많았다.

▶ They came out with all their troops, an army numerous as the sands on the seashore, and with a multitude of horses and chariots.

이 임금들이 모두 모여 이스라엘과 싸우려고 메롬 물가로 가서 함께 진을 쳤다.

▶ All these kings joined forces and marched to the waters of Merom, where they encamped together to fight against Israel.

|
그때에 주님께서 여호수아에게 말씀하셨다. “저들을 두려워하지 마라. 내일 이맘때, 내가 이스라엘 앞에 그들을 모두 시체로 넘겨주겠다. 너는 그들의 군마 뒷다리 힘줄을 끊고 병거들을 불에 태워라.”

▶ The LORD said to Joshua, "Do not fear them, for by this time tomorrow I will stretch them slain before Israel. You must hamstring their horses and burn their chariots."

그리하여 여호수아는 모든 병사와 함께 메롬 물가에 있는 그들에게 갑자기 밀어닥쳐 그들을 덮쳤다.

▶ Joshua with his whole army came upon them at the waters of Merom in a surprise attack.
|
|

|
주님께서 그들을 이스라엘의 손에 넘겨주셨으므로, 이스라엘 사람들은 그들을 쳐 죽이고 ‘큰 시돈’과 미스르폿 마임까지, 동쪽으로는 미츠파 골짜기까지 뒤쫓아 갔다. 그러면서 그들 가운데 생존자가 하나도 남지 않을 때까지 모두 쳐 죽였다.

▶ The LORD delivered them into the power of the Israelites, who defeated them and pursued them to Greater Sidon, to Misrephoth-maim, and eastward to the valley of Mizpeh. They struck them all down, leaving no survivors.

|
여호수아는 주님께서 자기에게 말씀하신 대로 하였다. 곧 그들의 군마 뒷다리 힘줄을 끊고 병거들을 불에 태워 버린 것이다.

▶ Joshua did to them as the LORD had commanded: he hamstrung their horses and burned their chariots.

|
그때 여호수아는 돌아오는 길에 하초르를 점령하고 그 임금을 칼로 쳐 죽였다. 하초르가 전에 이 모든 왕국의 우두머리였기 때문이다.

▶ At that time Joshua, turning back, captured Hazor and slew its king with the sword; for Hazor formerly was the chief of all those kingdoms.

|
또한 그 성읍에 있는 사람들을 모조리 칼로 쳐 죽여 완전 봉헌물로 바쳤다. 이렇게 그는 숨쉬는 것을 하나도 남기지 않았다. 그리고 하초르는 불에 태워 버렸다.

▶ He also fulfilled the doom by putting every person there to the sword, till none was left alive. Hazor itself he burned.

|
여호수아는 이 모든 임금의 성읍들을 점령하고 그 임금들을 사로잡아, 주님의 종 모세가 명령한 대로 칼로 쳐 죽여 완전 봉헌물로 바쳤다.

▶ Joshua thus captured all those kings with their cities and put them to the sword, fulfilling the doom on them, as Moses, the servant of the LORD, had commanded.

|
그러나 이스라엘은 여호수아가 불태워 버린 하초르를 제외하고는 언덕 위에 서 있는 성읍들을 하나도 불태우지 않았다.

▶ However, Israel did not destroy by fire any of the cities built on raised sites, except Hazor, which Joshua burned.

|
이스라엘 자손들은 이 성읍들에서 나온 모든 전리품과 가축을 차지하고, 사람들은 모조리 칼로 쳐 죽여 없애 버렸다. 이렇게 숨쉬는 것은 하나도 남겨 두지 않았다.

▶ The Israelites took all the spoil and livestock of these cities as their booty; but the people they put to the sword, until they had exterminated the last of them, leaving none alive.

|
주님께서 당신의 종 모세에게 명령하신 대로 모세가 여호수아에게 명령하였고, 여호수아는 또 그대로 실행하였다. 여호수아는 주님께서 모세에게 명령하신 것 가운데에서 하나도 빠뜨리지 않았다.

▶ As the LORD had commanded his servant Moses, so Moses commanded Joshua, and Joshua acted accordingly. He left nothing undone that the LORD had commanded Moses should be done.

|
이렇게 여호수아는 이 모든 땅, 곧 산악 지방, 온 네겝 땅, 온 고센 땅, 평원 지대, 아라바, 이스라엘 산악 지방과 그 평원 지대를 정복하였다.

▶ So Joshua captured all this land: the mountain regions, the entire Negeb, all the land of Goshen, the foothills, the Arabah, as well as the mountain regions and foothills of Israel,

그리고 세이르 쪽으로 솟은 할락 산에서 헤르몬 산 아래 레바논 골짜기에 있는 바알 가드까지, 모든 임금을 사로잡아 쳐 죽였다.

▶ from Mount Halak that rises toward Seir as far as Baal-gad in the Lebanon valley at the foot of Mount Hermon. All their kings he captured and put to death.

|
여호수아는 이 모든 임금과 오랫동안 싸웠다.

▶ Joshua waged war against all these kings for a long time.

|
기브온의 주민 히위족을 제외하고, 이스라엘 자손들과 평화를 이룬 성읍은 하나도 없었다. 나머지 성읍들은 모두 이스라엘 자손들이 싸워서 정복한 것이다.

▶ With the exception of the Hivites who lived in Gibeon, no city made peace with the Israelites; all were taken in battle.

|
이스라엘이 사정을 보지 않고 그 원주민들을 완전 봉헌물로 바치게 하시려고, 주님께서는 그들의 마음을 완고하게 하시어 이스라엘을 맞아 싸우게 하신 것이다. 이렇게 하여 여호수아는 주님께서 모세에게 명령하신 대로 그들을 전멸시켰다.

▶ For it was the design of the LORD to encourage them to wage war against Israel, that they might be doomed to destruction and thus receive no mercy, but be exterminated, as the LORD had commanded Moses.

그때에 여호수아가 가서 산악 지방, 헤브론, 드비르, 아납, 유다의 모든 산악 지방, 이스라엘의 모든 산악 지방에서 아낙인들을 제거하였다. 그들이 살던 성읍들과 그들을 완전 봉헌물로 바쳤다.

▶ At that time Joshua penetrated the mountain regions and exterminated the Anakim in Hebron, Debir, Anab, the entire mountain region of Judah, and the entire mountain region of Israel. Joshua fulfilled the doom on them and on their cities,

그래서 이스라엘 자손들의 땅에는 아낙인들이 하나도 남지 않고, 가자와 갓과 아스돗에만 남아 있다.

▶ so that no Anakim were left in the land of the Israelites. However, some survived in Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod.

|
이렇게 여호수아는 주님께서 모세에게 이르신 그대로 모든 땅을 정복하였다. 그러고 나서 지파별 구분에 따라 이스라엘 사람들에게 그 땅을 상속 재산으로 나누어 주었다. 이로써 전쟁은 끝나고 이 땅은 평온해졌다.

▶ Thus Joshua captured the whole country, just as the LORD had foretold to Moses. Joshua gave it to Israel as their heritage, apportioning it among the tribes. And the land enjoyed peace.
