▶ He was joined by all those who were in difficulties or in debt, or who were embittered, and he became their leader. About four hundred men were with him.

거기에서 다윗은 모압의 미츠파로 가, 모압 임금에게 청하였다. “하느님께서 저를 어떻게 하실지 알게 될 때까지, 저의 부모님이 임금님과 함께 머무르게 해 주십시오.”

▶ From there David went to Mizpeh of Moab and said to the king of Moab, "Let my father and mother stay with you, until I learn what God will do for me."

이렇게 다윗은 모압 임금에게 그들을 맡겨, 자신이 산성에 있는 동안 줄곧 그 임금 곁에 머물러 있게 하였다.

▶ He left them with the king of Moab, and they stayed with him as long as David remained in the refuge.

그런데 가드 예언자가 다윗에게 일렀다. “이 산성에 머물러 있을 것이 아니라, 어서 유다 지방으로 가십시오.” 그래서 다윗은 그곳을 떠나 헤렛 숲으로 들어갔다.

▶ But the prophet Gad said to David: "Do not remain in the refuge. Leave, and go to the land of Judah." And so David left and went to the forest of Hereth.

사울이 다윗과 그 부하들이 나타났다는 소식을 들었다. 그때 사울은 기브아의 높은 지대에 있는 에셀 나무 아래에서 손에 창을 들고 앉아 있었는데, 모든 신하가 그 주변에 둘러서 있었다.

▶ Now Saul heard that David and his men had been located. At the time he was sitting in Gibeah under a tamarisk tree on the high place, holding his spear, while all his servants were standing by.

사울은 자기 주변에 둘러서 있는 신하들을 꾸짖었다. “이 벤야민 사람들아, 잘 들어라. 이사이의 아들이 너희 모두에게 밭과 포도원을 주고, 너희를 모두 천인대장이나 백인대장으로 삼을 줄 아느냐?

▶ So he said to them: "Listen, men of Benjamin! Will the son of Jesse give all of you fields and vineyards? Will he make each of you an officer over a thousand or a hundred men,

그래서 너희가 모두 나를 거슬러 음모를 꾸민 것이냐? 내 아들이 이사이의 아들과 계약을 맺었을 때도, 나에게 알려 준 자가 아무도 없었다. 또 내 아들이 오늘 이처럼 내 신하를 부추겨서 나를 치려고 노리는데도, 너희 가운데에는 나를 염려하여 알려 주는 자가 아무도 없다.”

▶ that you have all conspired against me and no one tells me that my son has made an agreement with the son of Jesse? None of you shows sympathy for me or discloses to me that my son has stirred up my servant to be an enemy against me, as is the case today."

그때 에돔 사람 도엑이 사울의 신하들 곁에 서 있다가 이렇게 응답하였다. “제가 이사이의 아들을 보았습니다. 그는 놉으로 아히툽의 아들 아히멜렉을 찾아온 적이 있습니다.

▶ Then Doeg the Edomite, who was standing with the officers of Saul, spoke up: "I saw the son of Jesse come to Ahimelech, son of Ahitub, in Nob.

그때 아히멜렉은 그를 위하여 주님께 여쭈어 본 다음, 그에게 여행 양식을 주고 필리스티아 사람 골리앗의 칼도 내주었습니다.”

▶ He consulted the LORD for him and gave him supplies, and the sword of Goliath the Philistine as well."

임금은 놉에 있는 아히툽의 아들 아히멜렉 사제와 그 아버지 집안의 사제들을 모두 불러들였다. 그들이 모두 임금 앞에 나오자,

▶ At this the king sent a summons to Ahimelech the priest, son of Ahitub, and to all his family who were priests in Nob; and they all came to the king.

사울이 “아히툽의 아들아, 잘 들어라.” 하고 말하였다. 아히멜렉이 “예, 임금님! 말씀하십시오.” 하고 대답하였다.

▶ Then Saul said, "Listen, son of Ahitub!" He replied, "Yes, my lord."

사울이 그를 꾸짖었다. “너는 어찌하여 이사이의 아들과 더불어 나를 거슬러 음모를 꾸몄느냐? 어찌하여 그에게 음식과 칼을 내주고, 그를 위하여 하느님께 여쭈어 보아, 오늘 이처럼 나에게 맞서 일어나 나를 노리게 하였느냐?”

▶ Saul asked him, "Why did you conspire against me with the son of Jesse by giving him food and a sword and by consulting God for him, that he might rebel against me and become my enemy, as is the case today?"

아히멜렉이 임금에게 대답하였다. “임금님의 신하들 가운데 다윗만큼 믿을 만한 사람이 어디 있습니까? 그는 임금님의 사위이자 경호대장이며, 궁궐에서 존경받는 사람이 아닙니까?

▶ Ahimelech answered the king: "And who among all your servants is as loyal as David, the king's son-in-law, captain of your bodyguard, and honored in your own house?
|

|
그리고 그를 위하여 하느님께 여쭈어 보는 일을 제가 오늘에 와서야 시작한 것입니까? 결코 그렇지 않습니다. 그러니 임금님께서는 이 일의 책임을 이 종이나 이 종의 아버지 집안 전체에 지우지 말아 주십시오. 이 종은 작건 크건 이 모든 일에 관해 아는 바가 전혀 없습니다.”

▶ Is this the first time I have consulted God for him? No indeed! Let not the king accuse his servant or anyone in my family of such a thing. Your servant knows nothing at all, great or small, about the whole matter."

그러나 임금은 “너 아히멜렉과 네 아비의 온 집안은 죽어 마땅하다.” 하고 말하였다.

▶ But the king said, "You shall die, Ahimelech, with all your family."
|

임금은 자기 주변에 둘러선 호위병들에게 명령을 내렸다. “돌아서서 주님의 이 사제들을 죽여라. 그들은 다윗과 손을 잡고, 그가 달아난 것을 알면서도 나에게 알려 주지 않았다.” 그러나 임금의 신하들은 감히 손을 들어 주님의 사제들을 치려고 하지 않았다.

▶ The king then commanded his henchmen standing by: "Make the rounds and kill the priests of the LORD, for they assisted David. They knew he was a fugitive and yet failed to inform me." But the king's servants refused to lift a hand to strike the priests of the LORD.

임금이 도엑에게 “네가 돌아서서 이 사제들을 쳐라.” 하고 명령하자, 에돔 사람 도엑은 돌아서서 그 사제들을 쳤다. 그날 그는 아마포 에폿을 걸친 사람 여든다섯 명을 죽였다.

▶ The king therefore commanded Doeg, "You make the rounds and kill the priests!" So Doeg the Edomite went from one to the next and killed the priests himself, slaying on that day eighty-five who wore the linen ephod.

|
사울은 그 사제들이 살던 성읍 주민들도 칼로 쳐 죽였다. 남자와 여자, 어린이와 젖먹이, 소와 나귀와 양들까지 모두 칼로 쳐 죽였다.

▶ Saul also put the priestly city of Nob to the sword, including men and women, children and infants, and oxen, asses and sheep.

|
그런데 아히툽의 손자이며 아히멜렉의 아들인 한 사람이 목숨을 건져 다윗에게 달아났다. 그의 이름은 에브야타르였다.

에브야타르는 다윗에게 사울이 주님의 사제들을 죽였다는 소식을 전하였다.

▶ When Abiathar told David that Saul had slain the priests of the LORD,

다윗이 에브야타르에게 말하였다. “그 에돔 사람 도엑이 그날 거기에 있었는데, 그가 틀림없이 사울에게 보고하리라 짐작하였소. 당신 아버지 집안이 모두 목숨을 잃은 것은 바로 내 탓으로 돌려야 하오.

▶ David said to him: "I knew that day, when Doeg the Edomite was there, that he would surely tell Saul. I am responsible for the death of all your family.

|
무서워하지 말고 여기에서 나와 함께 있도록 합시다. 사실 당신 목숨을 노리는 자는 바로 내 목숨을 노리는 것이니, 나와 함께 있으면 안전할 것이오.”
