내 아들아, 너는 내 가르침을 잊지 말고 너의 마음이 내 계명을 지키게 하여라.

▶ My son, forget not my teaching, keep in mind my commands;
|

|
그것들이 너에게 장수와 수명을, 그리고 행복을 더해 주리라.

▶ For many days, and years of life, and peace, will they bring you.
|
|

|
자애와 진실이 너를 떠나지 않도록 하여라. 그것들을 네 목에 묶고 네 마음속에 새겨 두어라.

|
|
|
▶ Let not kindness and fidelity leave you; bind them around your neck;
|
|
4
|
그러면 네가 하느님과 사람 앞에서 호의와 호평을 받으리라.

▶ Then will you win favor and good esteem before God and man.
|
|

|
네 마음을 다하여 주님을 신뢰하고 너의 예지에는 의지하지 마라.

▶ Trust in the LORD with all your heart, on your own intelligence rely not;
|
|

|
어떠한 길을 걷든 그분을 알아 모셔라. 그분께서 네 앞길을 곧게 해 주시리라.

|
|
▶ In all your ways be mindful of him, and he will make straight your paths.
|
|

|
스스로 지혜롭다 여기지 말고 주님을 경외하며 악을 멀리하여라.

|
|
|
▶ Be not wise in your own eyes, fear the LORD and turn away from evil;
|
|
8
|
그것이 네 몸에 약이 되고 네 뼈에 활력소가 되리라.

|
▶ This will mean health for your flesh and vigor for your bones.
|
|

|
네 재물과 네 모든 소출의 맏물로 주님께 영광을 드려라.

|
|
|
|
▶ Honor the LORD with your wealth, with first fruits of all your produce;
|
|
10
|
그러면 네 곳간은 그득 차고 네 술통은 포도즙으로 넘치리라.

|
|
|
▶ Then will your barns be filled with grain, with new wine your vats will overflow.
|
|

|
내 아들아, 주님의 교훈을 물리치지 말고 그분의 훈계를 언짢게 여기지 마라.

|
|
|
▶ The discipline of the LORD, my son, disdain not; spurn not his reproof;
|
|

|
아버지가 아끼는 아들을 꾸짖듯 주님께서는 사랑하시는 이를 꾸짖으신다.

|
|
|
|
▶ For whom the LORD loves he reproves, and he chastises the son he favors.

▶ The Value of Wisdom

행복하여라, 지혜를 찾은 사람! 행복하여라, 슬기를 얻은 사람!

▶ Happy the man who finds wisdom, the man who gains understanding!

|
지혜의 소득은 은보다 낫고 그 소출은 순금보다 낫다.

▶ For her profit is better than profit in silver, and better than gold is her revenue;
|
|

|
지혜는 산호보다 값진 것 네 모든 귀중품도 그것에 비길 수 없다.

▶ She is more precious than corals, and none of your choice possessions can compare with her.
|

|
지혜의 오른손에는 장수가, 그 왼손에는 부와 영광이 들려 있다.

▶ Long life is in her right hand, in her left are riches and honor;

|
지혜의 길은 감미로운 길이고 그 모든 앞길에는 평화가 깃들어 있다.

▶ She is a tree of life to those who grasp her, and he is happy who holds her fast.

|
주님께서는 지혜로 땅을 세우시고 슬기로 하늘을 굳히셨다.

▶ The LORD by wisdom founded the earth, established the heavens by understanding;

|
그분의 지식으로 심연이 열리고 구름이 이슬을 내린다.

▶ By his knowledge the depths break open, and the clouds drop down dew.

주님은 너의 의지
|

|
|
|
|

|
내 아들아, 신중함과 현명함이 네 눈에서 벗어나지 않도록 하여라.

|
▶ My son, let not these slip out of your sight: keep advice and counsel in view;
|
|

|
그것들이 네 영혼에 생명이 되고 네 목에 아리따움이 되리라.

|
|
|
|
▶ So will they be life to your soul, and an adornment for your neck.
|

|
그러면 너는 안심하고 길을 걸으며 네 발은 어디에도 부딪치지 않으리라.

▶ Then you may securely go your way; your foot will never stumble;
|
|

|
네가 누워도 무서워할 것이 없고 누우면 곧 단잠을 자게 되리라.

▶ When you lie down, you need not be afraid, when you rest, your sleep will be sweet.

|
갑작스러운 공포 앞에서도, 악인들에게 닥치는 파멸에도 두려워하지 마라.

▶ Have no fear either of sudden terror or of attack mounted by wicked men,
|

주님께서 너의 의지가 되시어 네 발이 덫에 걸리지 않게 지켜 주시리라.

▶ since Yahweh will be your guarantor, he will keep your steps from the snare.

|
|
|
|
|

|
네가 할 수만 있다면 도와야 할 이에게 선행을 거절하지 마라.

▶ Refuse no kindness to those who have a right to it, if it is in your power to perform it.

|
가진 것이 있으면서도 네 이웃에게 “갔다가 다시 오게, 내일 줄 테니.” 하지 마라.

▶ Do not say to your neighbour, 'Go away! Come another time! I will give it you tomorrow,' if you can do it now.

이웃이 네 곁에서 안심하고 사는데 그에게 해가 되는 악을 지어내지 마라.

|
|
|
▶ Do not plot harm against your neighbour who is living unsuspecting beside you.
|

|
너에게 악을 끼치지 않았으면 어떤 사람하고도 공연히 다투지 마라.

|
|
▶ Do not pick a groundless quarrel with anyone who has done you no harm.
|

|
포악한 사람을 부러워하지 말고 그의 길은 어떤 것이든 선택하지 마라.

▶ Do not envy the man of violence, never model your conduct on his;

주님께서는 비뚤어진 자를 역겨워하시고 올곧은 이들을 가까이 하신다.

▶ for the wilful wrong-doer is abhorrent to Yahweh, who confides only in the honest.

주님께서는 악인의 집에 저주를 내리시고 의인이 사는 곳에는 복을 내리신다.

▶ Yahweh's curse lies on the house of the wicked, but he blesses the home of the upright.

그분께서는 빈정대는 자들에게 빈정대시지만 가련한 이들에게는 호의를 베푸신다.

▶ He mocks those who mock, but accords his favour to the humble.
|

|
지혜로운 이들은 영광을 물려받고 우둔한 자들은 수치를 짊어진다.

|
▶ Glory is the portion of the wise, all that fools inherit is contempt.
