The LORD told me this: Go down to the palace of the king of Judah and there deliver this message:

▶ 주님께서 이렇게 말씀하신다. “유다 왕궁으로 내려가서 이 말을 전하여라.

|
You shall say: Listen to the word of the LORD, king of Judah, who sit on the throne of David, you, your ministers, and your people that enter by these gates!

|
▶ 너는 이렇게 말하여라. ‘다윗 왕좌에 앉은 유다 임금아, 이 성문으로 들어오는 네 신하들과 백성과 더불어 주님의 말씀을 들어라.

Thus says the LORD: Do what is right and just. Rescue the victim from the hand of his oppressor. Do not wrong or oppress the resident alien, the orphan, or the widow, and do not shed innocent blood in this place.

▶ 주님께서 이렇게 말씀하신다. ′공정과 정의를 실천하고 착취당한 자를 압제자의 손에서 구해 주어라. 이방인과 고아와 과부를 괴롭히거나 학대하지 말고, 이곳에서 무죄한 피를 흘리지 마라.

If you carry out these commands, kings who succeed to the throne of David will continue to enter the gates of this palace, riding in chariots or mounted on horses, with their ministers, and their people.

▶ 너희가 정녕 이 말대로 실천한다면, 다윗 왕좌에 앉은 임금들이 병거와 군마를 타고, 신하들과 백성과 더불어 이 왕궁의 성문으로 들어올 것이다.

But if you do not obey these commands, I swear by myself, says the LORD: this palace shall become rubble.

▶ 그러나 너희가 이 말을 듣지 않으면, 나 자신을 걸고 맹세하건대, ─ 주님의 말씀이다. ─ 이 왕궁은 황무지가 될 것이다.′

For thus says the LORD concerning the palace of the king of Judah: Though you be to me like Gilead, like the peak of Lebanon, I will turn you into a waste, a city uninhabited.

▶ 유다 왕실을 두고 주님께서 이렇게 말씀하신다. ′너는 내게 길앗과도 같고 레바논 산 꼭대기와도 같으나 맹세코 내가 너를 광야로 만들고 아무도 살지 않는 성읍들로 만들리라.

Against you I will send destroyers, each with his axe: They shall cut down your choice cedars, and cast them into the fire.
|

|
▶ 나는 저마다 무기를 손에 들고 너를 파괴할 자들을 떼어 놓으리라. 그들이 너의 가장 좋은 향백나무들을 베어 내어 그것들을 불에 던지리라.′’”

Many people will pass by this city and ask one another: "Why has the LORD done this to so great a city?"

▶ 수많은 민족들이 이 도성을 지나가면서, 서로 제 이웃에게 “무엇 때문에 주님께서 이 큰 도성을 이렇게 만드셨는가?” 하고 물을 것이다.

And the answer will be given: "Because they have deserted their covenant with the LORD, their God, by worshiping and serving strange gods."

▶ 그러면 그들은 “저들이 주 그들의 하느님과 맺은 계약을 저버린 채 다른 신들을 예배하고 섬겼기 때문이다.” 하고 대답할 것이다.

Weep not for him who is dead, mourn not for him! Weep rather for him who is going away; never again will he see the land of his birth.

▶ 죽은 자를 위하여 울지 말고 애도하지 마라. 오히려 멀리 떠나가는 자를 위하여 슬피 울어라. 그가 다시 돌아와 제가 태어난 땅을 보는 일이 없으리라.

Thus says the LORD concerning Shallum, son of Josiah, king of Judah, who succeeded his father as king. He has left this place never to return.

Rather, he shall die in the place where they exiled him; this land he shall not see again.

▶ 그는 포로로 끌려간 거기에서 죽어 다시는 이 땅을 볼 수 없을 것이다.”

Woe to him who builds his house on wrong, his terraces on injustice; Who works his neighbor without pay, and gives him no wages.

▶ 불행하여라, 불의로 제집을 짓고 부정으로 누각을 쌓는 자! 그는 제 이웃에게 거저 일을 시키고 아무런 품삯도 주지 않는다.

Who says, "I will build myself a spacious house, with airy rooms," Who cuts out windows for it, panels it with cedar, and paints it with vermillion.

▶ “나 자신을 위해 넓은 집을 짓고 널찍한 방들이 딸린 누각도 쌓아야지.” 하면서 그는 제집에 창문을 만들어 달고 향백나무 판자를 붙인 다음 붉은색을 칠한다.

|
Must you prove your rank among kings by competing with them in cedar? Did not your father eat and drink? He did what was right and just, and it went well with him.

▶ 네가 향백나무를 쓰는 일로 으스댄다 해서 임금 노릇을 하는 줄 아느냐? 네 아버지는 먹고 마시면서도 공정과 정의를 실천하지 않았느냐? 그러기에 그가 잘되었다.

|
Because he dispensed justice to the weak and the poor, it went well with him. Is this not true knowledge of me? says the LORD.

▶ 가난하고 궁핍한 이의 송사를 들어주었기에 그가 잘된 것이다. 이야말로 나를 알아 모시는 일이 아니냐? 주님의 말씀이다.

But your eyes and heart are set on nothing except on your own gain, On shedding innocent blood, on practicing oppression and extortion.

▶ 그러나 너의 눈과 마음은 오로지 제 부정한 이익을 돌보고 무죄한 이의 피를 흘리며 억압과 폭력을 일삼는 일에나 쏠려 있다.

Therefore, thus says the LORD concerning Jehoiakim, son of Josiah, king of Judah: They shall not lament him, "Alas! my brother"; "Alas! sister." They shall not lament him, "Alas, Lord! alas, Majesty!"

The burial of an ass shall he be given, dragged forth and cast out beyond the gates of Jerusalem.

I spoke to you when you were secure, but you answered, "I will not listen." This has been your way from your youth, not to listen to my voice.

The wind shall shepherd all your shepherds, your lovers shall go into exile. Surely then you shall be ashamed and confounded because of all your wickedness.

You who dwell on Lebanon, who nest in the cedars, How you shall groan when pains come upon you, like the pangs of a woman in travail!

As I live, says the LORD, if you, Coniah, son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, are a signet ring on my right hand, I will snatch you from it.

I will deliver you into the hands of those who seek your life; the hands of those whom you fear; the hands of Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, and the Chaldeans.

I will cast you out, you and the mother who bore you, into a different land from the one you were born in; and there you shall die.

Is this man Coniah a vessel despised, to be broken up, an instrument that no one wants? Why are he and his descendants cast out? why thrown into a land they know not?

O land, land, land, hear the word of the LORD -

|
Thus says the LORD: Write this man down as one childless, who will never thrive in his lifetime! No descendant of his shall achieve a seat on the throne of David as ruler again over Judah.
