그분께서는 당신의 손바닥 안에서 세상을 조종하시니 만물이 그분의 뜻을 따른다. 그분께서 당신의 권능으로 만물의 임금이 되시고 만물 안에서 속된 것과 거룩한 것을 갈라놓으시기 때문이다.

얘야, 너의 선행에 비난을 섞지 말고 온갖 선물에 모진 말을 곁들이지 마라.

말하기 전에 배우고 앓기 전에 몸조심하여라.

▶ Before you are judged, seek merit for yourself, and at the time of visitation you will have a ransom.

심판이 닥치기 전에 너 자신을 성찰하여라. 그러면 셈 바칠 때에 용서를 받으리라.

▶ Before you have fallen, humble yourself; when you have sinned, show repentance.

병들기 전에 너 자신을 낮추고 죄를 지었을 때에는 회개의 태도를 보여라.

서원을 하기 전에 자신을 준비시켜 주님을 떠보는 인간처럼 되지 마라.

▶ Before making a vow have the means to fulfill it; be not one who tries the LORD.

끝 날에 닥칠 그분의 분노를, 그분께서 얼굴을 돌리며 징벌하실 때를 생각하여라.

▶ Think of wrath and the day of death, the time of vengeance when he will hide his face.

배부를 때에는 굶주릴 때를, 부유한 시절에는 가난과 궁핍을 생각하여라.

▶ Remember the time of hunger in the time of plenty, poverty and want in the day of wealth.

지혜로운 사람은 모든 면에서 용의주도하다. 죄악의 날들에도 그는 악행을 조심하리라.
