그날에 주님께서는 날카롭고 크고 세찬 당신의 칼로 도망치는 뱀 레비아탄을, 구불거리는 뱀 레비아탄을 벌하시고 바다 속 용을 죽이시리라.

▶ On that day, The LORD will punish with his sword that is cruel, great, and strong, Leviathan the fleeing serpent, Leviathan the coiled serpent; and he will slay the dragon that is in the sea.

그날에 너희는 이 아름다운 포도밭을 이렇게 노래하여라.

“주님인 나는 이 포도밭을 지키는 이. 시간마다 물을 주고 아무도 해치지 못하도록 밤낮으로 지킨다.

▶ I, the LORD, am its keeper, I water it every moment; Lest anyone harm it, night and day I guard it.

나는 성내지 않는다. 가시덤불과 엉겅퀴가 있으면 그것을 쳐 없애려고 달려들어 모조리 불태워 버린다.

▶ I am not angry, but if I were to find briers and thorns, In battle I should march against them; I should burn them all.

이렇게 되지 않으려거든 내 보호에 매달리고 나와 평화를 이루어라, 나와 평화를 이루어라.”

▶ Or shall he cling to me for refuge? He must make peace with me; peace shall he make with me!

용서받는 야곱과 처벌받는 압제자

장차 야곱은 뿌리를 내리고 이스라엘은 싹이 트고 꽃이 피어 그 열매가 누리에 가득 차리라.

▶ In days to come Jacob shall take root, Israel shall sprout and blossom, covering all the world with fruit.

그를 내리친 자들을 내리치신 것처럼 그분께서 그를 내리치셨더냐? 그를 죽인 자들을 죽이신 것처럼 그분께서 그를 죽이셨더냐?

▶ Is he to be smitten as his smiter was smitten? or slain as his slayer was slain?

그분께서는 그를 내몰고 내쫓으시어 벌하시고 샛바람이 부는 날 그를 거센 바람으로 몰아내셨다.

▶ Expunging and expelling, I should strive against them, carrying them off with my cruel wind in time of storm.

이리하여 야곱의 죄는 용서받으리라. 그가 제단의 모든 돌들을 부서진 횟돌처럼 만들고 아세라 목상들과 분향 제단들을 다시는 세우지 않으리니 이것이 모두 그 죄악을 없앤 결과가 되리라.

▶ This, then, shall be the expiation of Jacob's guilt, this the whole fruit of the removal of his sin: He shall pulverize all the stones of the altars like pieces of chalk; no sacred poles or incense altars shall stand.

요새 성읍은 적막해지고 광야처럼 버려져 텅 빈 마을이 되리라. 거기에서 송아지가 풀을 뜯고 거기에 누워 나무줄기들을 모조리 먹어 치우리라.

그 가지들이 말라 꺾어지면 여자들이 와서 그것들로 불을 지피리니 이 백성이 슬기가 없는 백성이기 때문이다. 그러므로 그들을 지으신 분조차 그들을 가엾이 여기지 않으시고 그들을 빚으신 분조차 그들에게 자비를 베풀지 않으시리라.

▶ its branches shall wither and be broken off, and women shall come to build a fire with them. This is not an understanding people; therefore their maker shall not spare them, nor shall he who formed them have mercy on them.

그날에 이러한 일이 일어나리라. 이스라엘 자손들아 주님께서는 유프라테스 강 줄기에서 ‘이집트 마른내’에 이르기까지 마당질을 하시어 너희들을 하나하나 모아들이시리라.

▶ On that day, The LORD shall beat out the grain between the Euphrates and the Wadi of Egypt, and you shall be gleaned one by one, O sons of Israel.

또 그날에 이러한 일이 일어나리라. 큰 나팔 소리가 울리리니 아시리아 땅에서 멸망해 가던 이들과 이집트 땅에 흩어진 이들이 모여 와 예루살렘의 거룩한 산에서 주님을 경배하리라.
