그러나 나는 아리엘을 압박해 가리니 슬픔과 서러움이 일리라. 예루살렘은 나에게 아리엘처럼 되리라.

나는 네 둘레에 진을 쳐서 토성을 쌓아 너를 조이고 너를 향해 공격 축대를 세우리라.

▶ I will encamp like David against you; I will encircle you with outposts and set up siege works against you.

그러면 너는 땅바닥에 쓰러진 채 말하리니 네 말소리는 먼지 속에서 가늘게 들려오리라. 네 목소리는 유령의 소리처럼 땅에서 올라오고 네 말소리는 먼지 속에서 웅얼웅얼 들려오리라.

▶ Prostrate you shall speak from the earth, and from the base dust your words shall come. Your voice shall be like a ghost's from the earth, and your words like chirping from the dust.

그러나 네 적들의 무리도 작은 티끌처럼 되고 포악한 자들의 무리도 흩날리는 겨처럼 되리라. 그리고 한순간 갑자기

▶ The horde of your arrogant shall be like fine dust, the horde of the tyrants like flying chaff. Then suddenly, in an instant,

만군의 주님께서 너를 찾아오시리라. 천둥과 지진과 굉음 태풍과 폭풍, 삼킬 듯한 불길과 함께 찾아오시리라.

▶ you shall be visited by the LORD of hosts, With thunder, earthquake, and great noise, whirlwind, storm, and the flame of consuming fire.

그러면 아리엘을 치러 나온 모든 민족들의 무리, 그를 치러 나온 자들, 그 요새와 그를 압박해 가는 자들이 모두 꿈처럼, 밤의 환시처럼 되리라.

▶ Then like a dream, a vision in the night, Shall be the horde of all the nations who war against Ariel with all the earthworks of her besiegers.

|
배고픈 자가 먹는 꿈을 꾸어도 깨어나면 계속 속이 비어 있듯이, 목마른 자가 마시는 꿈을 꾸어도 깨어나면 기진한 채 여전히 목이 타듯이, 시온 산을 치러 나온 모든 민족들의 무리도 그렇게 되리라.

▶ As when a hungry man dreams he is eating and awakens with an empty stomach, Or when a thirsty man dreams he is drinking and awakens faint and dry, So shall the horde of all the nations be, who make war against Zion.

너희는 깜짝 놀라서 어리둥절해하리라. 스스로 눈을 들어붙게 하여 눈이 멀리라. 포도주 없이도 취하리라. 술이 없이도 비틀거리리라.

▶ Be irresolute, stupefied; blind yourselves and stay blind! Be drunk, but not from wine, stagger, but not from strong drink!

주님께서는 너희 위로 깊은 잠의 영을 부으시고 너희 예언자들의 눈을 감기시며 너희 선견자들의 머리를 덮어 버리셨다.

▶ For the LORD has poured out on you a spirit of deep sleep. He has shut your eyes (the prophets) and covered your heads (the seers).

이 모든 것에 대한 환시는 너희에게, 봉인된 문서의 말씀처럼 되어 버렸다. 그래서 사람들이 글을 아는 이에게 “이것 좀 읽어 주시오.” 하고 그것을 내주면, 그는 “봉인되어 있어서 못 읽겠소.” 하고 대답한다.

▶ For you the revelation of all this has become like the words of a sealed scroll. When it is handed to one who can read, with the request, "Read this," he replies, "I cannot; it is sealed."

그리고 글을 모르는 이에게 “이것 좀 읽어 주시오.” 하고 그 문서를 내주면, 그는 “나는 글을 모르오.” 하고 대답한다.

주님께서 말씀하셨다. “이 백성이 입으로는 나에게 다가오고 입술로는 나를 공경하지만 그 마음은 내게서 멀리 떠나 있고 나에 대한 그들의 경외심은 사람들에게서 배운 계명일 뿐이니

▶ The Lord said: Since this people draws near with words only and honors me with their lips alone, though their hearts are far from me, And their reverence for me has become routine observance of the precepts of men,

나는 이 백성에게 놀라운 일을, 놀랍고 기이한 일을 계속 보이리라. 그리하여 지혜롭다는 자들의 지혜는 사라지고 슬기롭다는 자들의 슬기는 자취를 감추리라.”

▶ Therefore I will again deal with this people in surprising and wondrous fashion: The wisdom of its wise men shall perish and the understanding of its prudent men be hid.

불행하여라, 자기네 계획을 주님 모르게 깊이 숨기는 자들! 어둠 속에서 행동하는 이자들은 “누가 우리를 보랴? 누가 우리를 알랴?” 하고 말한다.

▶ Woe to those who would hide their plans too deep for the LORD! Who work in the dark, saying, "Who sees us, or who knows us?"

아, 거꾸로 행동하는 너희들! 진흙이 옹기장이와 똑같이 인정받을 수 있느냐? 작품이 제작자를 두고 “그가 나를 만들지 않았다.” 할 수 있느냐? 빚어진 것이 자기를 빚은 자를 두고 “그는 아무것도 모른다.” 할 수 있느냐?

정녕 이제 조금만 있으면 레바논은 과수원으로 변하고 과수원은 숲으로 여겨지리라.

그날에는 귀먹은 이들도 책에 적힌 말을 듣고 눈먼 이들의 눈도 어둠과 암흑을 벗어나 보게 되리라.

겸손한 이들은 주님 안에서 기쁨에 기쁨을 더하고 사람들 가운데 가장 가난한 이들은 이스라엘의 거룩하신 분 안에서 즐거워하리니

▶ The lowly will ever find joy in the LORD, and the poor rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.

포악한 자가 없어지고 빈정대는 자가 사라지며 죄지을 기회를 엿보는 자들이 모두 잘려 나가겠기 때문이다.

▶ For the tyrant will be no more and the arrogant will have gone; All who are alert to do evil will be cut off,

이들은 소송 때 남을 지게 만들고 성문에서 재판하는 사람에게 올가미를 씌우며 무죄한 이의 권리를 까닭 없이 왜곡하는 자들이다.

▶ those whose mere word condemns a man, Who ensnare his defender at the gate, and leave the just man with an empty claim.

그러므로 아브라함을 구원하신 야곱 집안의 하느님이신 주님께서 이렇게 말씀하신다. “야곱은 더 이상 부끄러운 일을 당하지 않고 더 이상 얼굴이 창백해지는 일이 없으리라.

▶ Therefore thus says the LORD, the God of the house of Jacob, who redeemed Abraham: Now Jacob shall have nothing to be ashamed of, nor shall his face grow pale.

그들은 자기들 가운데에서 내 손의 작품인 자녀들을 보게 될 때 나의 이름을 거룩하게 하리라.” 그들은 이스라엘의 거룩하신 분을 거룩하게 하며 이스라엘의 하느님을 두려워하게 되리라.
