As for you, son of man, take a clay tablet; lay it in front of you, and draw on it a city (Jerusalem).

▶ “너 사람의 아들아, 벽돌을 가져다가 앞에 놓고 그 위에 도성 하나를, 곧 예루살렘을 새겨라.

Raise a siege against it: build a tower, lay out a ramp, pitch camps, and set up batteringrams all around.

▶ 그런 다음 그 도성에 포위망을 쳐라. 공격 보루를 세우고 공격 축대를 쌓아라. 또 진을 치고 성벽 부수는 기계를 성 둘레에 놓아라.

Then take an iron griddle and set it up as an iron wall between you and the city. Fix your gaze on it: it shall be in the state of siege, and you shall besiege it. This shall be a sign for the house of Israel.

▶ 그리고 너는 철판을 가져다가 너와 그 도성 사이에 철벽을 세우고, 그 도성에서 얼굴을 돌리지 마라. 이렇게 그 도성을 포위하고 포위망을 좁혀라. 이것이 이스라엘 집안에게 보여 주는 표징이다.

Then you shall lie on your left side, while I place the sins of the house of Israel upon you. As many days as you lie thus, you shall bear their sins.

▶ 너는 또 왼쪽 옆구리를 바닥에 대고 누워서, 그 위에 이스라엘 집안의 죄를 놓아라. 그렇게 누워 있는 날수만큼 네가 그들의 죄를 짊어지는 것이다.

For the years of their sins I allot you the same number of days, three hundred and ninety, during which you will bear the sins of the house of Israel.

▶ 나는 그들 죄의 햇수만큼 날수를 정하였으니, 곧 삼백구십 일이다. 너는 그렇게 이스라엘 집안의 죄를 짊어져야 한다.

When you finish this, you are to lie down again, but on your right side, and bear the sins of the house of Judah forty days; one day for each year I have allotted you.

▶ 그 날수를 채운 다음에는 오른쪽 옆구리를 바닥에 대고 누워서, 유다 집안의 죄를 짊어져라. 하루를 한 해씩으로 쳐서 사십 일 동안이다.

Fixing your gaze on the siege of Jerusalem, with bared arm you shall prophesy against it.

See, I will bind you with cords so that you cannot turn from one side to the other until you have completed the days of your siege.

Again, take wheat and barley, and beans and lentils, and millet and spelt; put them in a single vessel and make bread out of them. Eat it for as many days as you lie upon your side, three hundred and ninety.

The food you eat shall be twenty shekels a day by weight; each day the same.

And the water you drink shall be the sixth of a hin by measure; each day the same.

For your food you must bake barley loaves over human excrement in their sight, said the LORD.

▶ 너는 그 빵을 보리 빵처럼 구워 먹는데, 사람들이 보는 앞에서 인분으로 불을 피워 구워라.”

Thus the Israelites shall eat their food unclean among the nations where I scatter them.

▶ 그런 다음 주님께서 또 말씀하셨다. “내가 이스라엘 자손들을 민족들 사이로 내쫓으면, 그들은 그곳에서 이처럼 부정한 빵을 먹을 것이다.”

"Oh no, Lord GOD!" I protested. "Never have I been made unclean, and from my youth till now, never have I eaten carrion flesh or that torn by wild beasts; never has any unclean meat entered my mouth."

▶ 그러나 나는 이렇게 말씀드렸다. “아, 주 하느님! 저는 저 자신을 부정하게 만든 일이 없습니다. 저는 어려서부터 지금까지, 저절로 죽거나 맹수에게 찢겨 죽은 짐승의 고기를 먹지 않았습니다. 부정한 고기가 제 입속으로 들어온 적이 없습니다.”

Very well, he replied, I allow you cow's dung in place of human excrement; bake your bread on that.

▶ 그러자 주님께서 나에게 말씀하셨다. “좋다. 그러면 인분 대신 쇠똥을 쓰도록 허락한다. 그것으로 불을 피워 빵을 구워라.”

Then he said to me: Son of man, I am breaking the staff of bread in Jerusalem. They shall eat bread which they have weighed out anxiously, and they shall drink water which they have measured out fearfully,

so that, owing to the scarcity of bread and water, everyone shall be filled with terror and waste away because of his sins.
