▶ All the tribes of Israel came to David in Hebron and said: "Here we are, your bone and your flesh.

전에 사울이 우리의 임금이었을 때에도, 이스라엘을 거느리고 출전하신 이는 임금님이셨습니다. 또한 주님께서는 ‘너는 내 백성 이스라엘의 목자가 되고 이스라엘의 영도자가 될 것이다.’ 하고 임금님께 말씀하셨습니다.”

▶ In days past, when Saul was our king, it was you who led the Israelites out and brought them back. And the LORD said to you, 'You shall shepherd my people Israel and shall be commander of Israel.'"

그리하여 이스라엘의 원로들이 모두 헤브론으로 임금을 찾아가자, 다윗 임금은 헤브론에서 주님 앞으로 나아가 그들과 계약을 맺었다. 그리고 그들은 다윗에게 기름을 부어 이스라엘의 임금으로 세웠다.

▶ When all the elders of Israel came to David in Hebron, King David made an agreement with them there before the LORD, and they anointed him king of Israel.

다윗은 서른 살에 임금이 되어 마흔 해 동안 다스렸다.

▶ David was thirty years old when he became king, and he reigned for forty years:

다윗 임금이 부하들을 거느리고 예루살렘으로 가서 그 땅에 사는 여부스족을 치려 하자, 여부스 주민들이 다윗에게 말하였다. “너는 이곳에 들어올 수 없다. 눈먼 이들과 다리저는 이들도 너쯤은 물리칠 수 있다.” 그들은 다윗이 거기에 들어올 수 없으리라고 여겼던 것이다.

▶ Then the king and his men set out for Jerusalem against the Jebusites who inhabited the region. David was told, "You cannot enter here: the blind and the lame will drive you away!" which was their way of saying, "David cannot enter here."

▶ But David did take the stronghold of Zion, which is the City of David.

그날 다윗이 이렇게 말하였다. “누구든지 여부스족을 치려는 자는 지하 수로로 올라가, 이 다윗이 미워하는 저 다리저는 이들과 눈먼 이들을 쳐라.” 여기에서 “다리저는 이와 눈먼 이는 궁 안에 들어가지 못한다.”는 말이 생겨났다.

▶ On that day David said: "All who wish to attack the Jebusites must strike at them through the water shaft. The lame and the blind shall be the personal enemies of David." That is why it is said, "The blind and the lame shall not enter the palace."

다윗은 그 산성에 살면서, 그곳을 ‘다윗 성’이라고 하였다. 다윗은 밀로 안쪽으로 성곽을 둘러쌓았다.

▶ David then dwelt in the stronghold, which was called the City of David; he built up the area from Millo to the palace.

다윗은 세력이 점점 커졌다. 주 만군의 하느님께서 그와 함께 계셨기 때문이다.

▶ David grew steadily more powerful, for the LORD of hosts was with him.

티로 임금 히람이 다윗에게 사절단과 함께 향백나무와 목수와 석수들을 보내어, 다윗에게 궁을 지어 주게 하였다.

▶ Hiram, king of Tyre, sent ambassadors to David; he furnished cedar wood, as well as carpenters and masons, who built a palace for David.

그리하여 다윗은 주님께서 자기를 이스라엘의 임금으로 튼튼히 세우시고, 당신 백성 이스라엘을 위하여 자기 왕권을 높여 주신 것을 알게 되었다.

▶ And David knew that the LORD had established him as king of Israel and had exalted his rule for the sake of his people Israel.

▶ David took more concubines and wives in Jerusalem after he had come from Hebron, and more sons and daughters were born to him in Jerusalem.

|
필리스티아인들은 사람들이 다윗에게 기름을 부어 그를 이스라엘의 임금으로 세웠다는 소식을 들었다. 필리스티아인들이 다윗을 잡으려고 모두 올라오자, 다윗은 그 보고를 듣고 산성으로 내려갔다.

▶ When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king of Israel, they all took the field in search of him. On hearing this, David went down to the refuge.

그때에 필리스티아인들은 이미 르파임 골짜기로 와서 그곳에 퍼져 있었다.

▶ The Philistines came and overran the valley of Rephaim.

|
다윗이 주님께 “필리스티아인들을 치러 올라가도 되겠습니까? 그들을 제 손에 넘겨주시겠습니까?” 하고 여쭈어 보자, 주님께서 다윗에게 이르셨다. “올라가거라. 내가 반드시 필리스티아인들을 네 손에 넘겨주겠다.”

▶ David inquired of the LORD, "Shall I attack the Philistines - will you deliver them into my grip?" The LORD replied to David, "Attack, for I will surely deliver the Philistines into your grip."

그래서 다윗은 바알 프라침으로 들어가 그곳에서 그들을 쳐부순 다음, 이렇게 말하였다. “큰물로 무너뜨리듯, 주님께서는 내 앞에서 원수를 무너뜨리셨다.” 그리하여 그곳의 이름을 바알 프라침이라 하였다.

▶ David then went to Baal-perazim, where he defeated them. He said, "The LORD has scattered my enemies before me like waters that have broken free." That is why the place is called Baal-perazim.

필리스티아인들이 그곳에 자기 우상들을 버리고 갔으므로, 다윗은 부하들과 함께 그것들을 치웠다.

▶ They abandoned their gods there, and David and his men carried them away.

▶ So David inquired of the LORD, who replied: "You must not attack frontally, but circle their rear and meet them before the mastic trees.

발삼 향나무 꼭대기에서 발걸음 소리가 들리거든, 그때 습격하여라. 주님이 앞장서 나가 필리스티아인들의 군대를 칠 것이다.”

▶ When you hear a sound of marching in the tops of the mastic trees, act decisively, for the LORD will have gone forth before you to attack the camp of the Philistines."

|
다윗은 주님께서 명령하신 대로 하여, 게바에서 게제르까지 필리스티아인들을 쳤다.

▶ David obeyed the LORD'S command and routed the Philistines from Gibeon as far as Gezer.
