다윗이 다시 이스라엘에서 정병 삼만 명을 모두 소집하였다.

다윗은 유다 바알라에서 하느님의 궤를 모셔 오려고, 모든 군대를 거느리고 그곳으로 떠났다. 그 궤는 커룹들 위에 좌정하신 만군의 주님의 이름으로 불렸다.

▶ Then David and all the people who were with him set out for Baala of Judah to bring up from there the ark of God, which bears the name of the LORD of hosts enthroned above the cherubim.

그들은 하느님의 궤를 새 수레에 싣고, 언덕 위에 있는 아비나답의 집에서 내갔다. 아비나답의 아들 우짜와 아흐요가 그 새 수레를 몰았다.

▶ while David and all the Israelites made merry before the LORD with all their strength, with singing and with citharas, harps, tambourines, sistrums and cymbals.

그들이 나콘의 타작마당에 이르렀을 때였다. 소들이 비틀거리는 바람에 우짜가 손을 뻗어 하느님의 궤를 붙들었다.

▶ When they came to the threshing floor of Nodan, Uzzah reached out his hand to the ark of God and steadied it, for the oxen were making it tip.

그러자 우짜를 향하여 주님의 분노가 타올랐다. 하느님께서 그의 잘못 때문에 거기에서 그를 치시니, 그는 거기 하느님의 궤 곁에서 죽었다.

▶ But the LORD was angry with Uzzah; God struck him on that spot, and he died there before God.

다윗은 주님께서 우짜를 그렇게 내리치신 일 때문에 화가 났다. 그래서 그는 그곳을 페레츠 우짜라고 하였는데, 그곳이 오늘날까지 그렇게 불린다.

▶ David was disturbed because the LORD had vented his anger on Uzzah. (The place has been called Perez-uzzah down to the present day.)

그날 다윗은 주님을 두려워하며, “이래서야 어떻게 주님의 궤를 내가 있는 곳으로 옮겨 갈 수 있겠는가?” 하고 말하였다.

▶ David feared the LORD that day and said, "How can the ark of the LORD come to me?"

그래서 다윗은 주님의 궤를 자기가 있는 다윗 성으로 가져가려 하지 않고, 갓 사람 오벳 에돔의 집으로 옮겼다.

▶ So David would not have the ark of the LORD brought to him in the City of David, but diverted it to the house of Obed-edom the Gittite.

주님의 궤가 갓 사람 오벳 에돔의 집에서 석 달을 머무르는 동안, 주님께서는 오벳 에돔과 그의 온 집안에 복을 내리셨다.

▶ The ark of the LORD remained in the house of Obed-edom the Gittite for three months, and the LORD blessed Obed-edom and his whole house.

주님께서 하느님의 궤 때문에 오벳 에돔과 그의 모든 재산에 복을 내리셨다는 소식이 다윗 임금에게 전해지자, 다윗은 기뻐하며 오벳 에돔의 집에서 다윗 성으로 하느님의 궤를 모시고 올라갔다.

▶ When it was reported to King David that the LORD had blessed the family of Obed-edom and all that belonged to him, David went to bring up the ark of God from the house of Obed-edom into the City of David amid festivities.

|
주님의 궤를 멘 이들이 여섯 걸음을 옮기자, 다윗은 황소와 살진 송아지를 제물로 바쳤다.

▶ As soon as the bearers of the ark of the LORD had advanced six steps, he sacrificed an ox and a fatling.

|
다윗은 아마포 에폿을 입고, 온 힘을 다하여 주님 앞에서 춤을 추었다.

▶ Then David, girt with a linen apron, came dancing before the LORD with abandon,

|
다윗과 온 이스라엘 집안은 함성을 올리고 나팔을 불며, 주님의 궤를 모시고 올라갔다.

▶ as he and all the Israelites were bringing up the ark of the LORD with shouts of joy and to the sound of the horn.

|
주님의 궤가 다윗 성으로 들어갈 때, 다윗 임금이 주님 앞에서 뛰며 춤추는 것을 사울의 딸 미칼이 창문으로 내려다보고, 속으로 그를 비웃었다.

▶ As the ark of the LORD was entering the City of David, Saul's daughter Michal looked down through the window and saw King David leaping and dancing before the LORD, and she despised him in her heart.

그들은 다윗이 미리 쳐 둔 천막 안 제자리에 주님의 궤를 옮겨 놓았다. 그러고 나서 다윗은 주님 앞에 번제물과 친교 제물을 바쳤다.

▶ The ark of the LORD was brought in and set in its place within the tent David had pitched for it. Then David offered holocausts and peace offerings before the LORD.

다윗은 번제물과 친교 제물을 다 바친 다음에 만군의 주님의 이름으로 백성에게 축복하였다.

▶ When he finished making these offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD of hosts.

|
그는 온 백성에게, 남녀를 가리지 않고 이스라엘 모든 군중에게 빵 과자 하나와 대추야자 과자 하나, 그리고 건포도 과자 한 뭉치씩을 나누어 주었다. 그 뒤 온 백성은 저마다 자기 집으로 돌아갔다.

▶ He then distributed among all the people, to each man and each woman in the entire multitude of Israel, a loaf of bread, a cut of roast meat, and a raisin cake. With this, all the people left for their homes.

다윗이 자기 집안을 축복하러 돌아오니, 사울의 딸 미칼이 다윗을 맞이하러 나와서 말하였다. “오늘 이스라엘의 임금님이 건달패 가운데 하나가 알몸을 드러내듯이, 자기 신하들의 여종들이 보는 앞에서 벗고 나서니, 그 모습이 참 볼 만하더군요!”

▶ When David returned to bless his own family, Saul's daughter Michal came out to meet him and said, "How the king of Israel has honored himself today, exposing himself to the view of the slave girls of his followers, as a commoner might do!"

다윗이 미칼에게 대답하였다. “주님께서는 당신 아버지와 그 집안 대신 나를 뽑으시고, 나를 주님의 백성 이스라엘의 영도자로 세우셨소. 바로 그 주님 앞에서 내가 흥겨워한 것이오.

▶ But David replied to Michal: "I was dancing before the LORD. As the LORD lives, who preferred me to your father and his whole family when he appointed me commander of the LORD'S people, Israel, not only will I make merry before the LORD,

나는 이보다 더 자신을 낮추고, 내가 보기에도 천하게 될 것이오. 그러나 당신이 말하는 저 여종들에게는 존경을 받게 될 것이오.”

▶ but I will demean myself even more. I will be lowly in your esteem, but in the esteem of the slave girls you spoke of I will be honored."

그 뒤 사울의 딸 미칼에게는 죽는 날까지 아이가 없었다.

▶ And so Saul's daughter Michal was childless to the day of her death.
