너희는 징벌의 날에, 멀리서 들이닥치는 폭풍의 날에 어찌하려느냐? 누구에게 도망하여 도움을 청하고 너희 재산은 어디에 갖다 놓으려느냐?

포로들 사이에 쭈그려 앉거나 살해된 자들 사이에 쓰러지는 수밖에 없다. 이 모든 것에도 그분의 진노는 풀리지 않아 그분의 손은 여전히 뻗쳐 있다.

그러나 그는 그렇게 생각하지 않고 그러한 뜻을 마음에 품지도 않았다. 오로지 그의 마음속에는 멸망시키려는 생각과 적지 않은 수의 민족들을 파멸시키려는 생각뿐이었다.

그러므로 주님께서는 시온 산과 예루살렘에서 하실 일을 다 마치신 다음, 아시리아 임금의 오만한 마음에서 나온 소행과 그 눈에 서린 방자한 교만을 벌하실 것이다.

내 손이 민족들의 재물을 새 둥지인 양 움켜잡고, 버려진 알들을 거두어들이듯 내가 온 세상을 거두어들였지만 날개를 치거나 입을 열거나 재잘거리는 자가 없었다.”

▶ My hand has seized like a nest the riches of nations; As one takes eggs left alone, so I took in all the earth; No one fluttered a wing, or opened a mouth, or chirped!"

|
도끼가 도끼질하는 사람에게 뽐낼 수 있느냐? 톱이 톱질하는 사람에게 으스댈 수 있느냐? 마치 몽둥이가 저를 들어 올리는 사람을 휘두르고 막대가 나무도 아닌 사람을 들어 올리려는 것과 같지 않으냐?

그러므로 주 만군의 주님께서는 그 비대한 자들에게 질병을 보내어 야위게 하시리라. 마치 불로 태우듯 그 영화를 불꽃으로 태워 버리시리라.

그 숲의 나무들 가운데 남은 것은 몇 그루 되지 않아 아이라도 그것들을 기록해 둘 수 있으리라.

▶ And the remnant of the trees in his forest will be so few, Like poles set up for signals, that any boy can record them.

그날에 이러한 일이 일어날 것이다. 이스라엘의 남은 자들과 야곱 집안의 생존자들이 더 이상 자기들을 친 자에게 의지하지 않고, 이스라엘의 거룩하신 분 주님께만 충실히 의지할 것이다.

그러므로 주 만군의 주님께서 이렇게 말씀하신다. “시온에 사는 나의 백성아, 너를 막대로 때리고 이집트처럼 너에게 몽둥이를 치켜드는 아시리아를 두려워하지 마라.

▶ Therefore thus says the Lord, the GOD of hosts: O my people, who dwell in Zion, do not fear the Assyrian, though he strikes you with a rod, and raises his staff against you.

이제 아주 조금만 지나면 너를 향한 나의 진노는 다하고, 오히려 저들의 파괴 행위를 향하여 나의 분노를 터뜨릴 것이다.”
