그리고 포위 기간이 끝날 때, 삼분의 일은 성안에서 불로 태워 버리고, 삼분의 일은 가져다가 성을 돌며 칼로 내려치고, 또 삼분의 일은 바람에 날려 버려라. 그러면 내가 칼을 빼 들고 그것들을 뒤쫓겠다.

그러나 예루살렘은 나의 법규들을 다른 민족들보다 더 악하게 거슬렀다. 나의 규정들을 둘레에 있는 나라들보다 더 거슬렀다. 정녕 그들은 나의 법규들을 업신여기고 나의 규정들을 따르지 않았다.

▶ But she rebelled against my ordinances more wickedly than the nations, and against my statutes more than the foreign countries surrounding her; she has spurned my ordinances and has not lived by my statutes.

그러므로 주 하느님이 이렇게 말한다. 너희는 둘레에 있는 민족들보다 더 반항하여 내 규정들을 따르지 않고 내 법규들을 지키지 않았으며, 오히려 둘레에 있는 민족들의 법규들을 지켰다.

▶ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: Because you have been more rebellious than the nations surrounding you, not living by my statutes nor fulfilling my ordinances, but acting according to the ordinances of the surrounding nations;

그러므로 주 하느님이 이렇게 말한다. 보아라, 나도 너 예루살렘을 대적하겠다. 그리고 민족들이 보는 앞에서 네 가운데에 벌을 내리겠다.

▶ therefore thus says the Lord GOD: See, I am coming at you! I will inflict punishments in your midst while the nations look on.

너의 그 모든 역겨운 것 때문에, 내가 전에도 하지 않았고 앞으로도 하지 않을 그런 일을 너에게 하겠다.

▶ Because of all your abominations I will do with you what I have never done before, the like of which I will never do again.

그리하여 네 가운데에서 아버지가 자식을 잡아먹고, 자식이 아버지를 잡아먹게 될 것이다. 나는 이렇듯 너에게 벌을 내리고, 그러고도 너에게 남은 자들을 모두 사방으로 흩어 버리겠다.

▶ This means that fathers within you shall eat sons, and sons shall eat fathers. I will inflict punishments upon you and scatter all that remain of your people in every direction.

그러므로 내 생명을 걸고 말한다. 주 하느님의 말이다. 네가 너의 그 모든 혐오스러운 것과 역겨운 것으로 나의 성전을 부정하게 만들었기 때문에, 나도 너를 잘라 내고 동정하지 않으며, 또한 불쌍히 여기지도 않겠다.

▶ Therefore, as I live, says the Lord GOD, because you have defiled my sanctuary with all your detestable abominations, I swear to cut you down. I will not look upon you with pity nor have mercy.

너의 주민 삼분의 일은 성안에서 흑사병으로 죽거나 굶주림으로 스러져 가고, 삼분의 일은 너의 성 둘레에서 칼에 맞아 쓰러질 것이다. 또 삼분의 일은 내가 사방으로 흩어 버린 다음, 칼을 빼 들고 그들을 뒤쫓겠다.

▶ A third of your people shall die of pestilence and perish of hunger within you; another third shall fall by the sword all around you; and a third I will scatter in every direction, and I will pursue them with the sword.

나는 이렇게 내 분노를 다 쏟아 내어 그들에 대한 화를 가라앉히고 내 속을 후련하게 하겠다. 이렇듯 내가 그들에 대한 화를 다 쏟을 때, 그들은 비로소 나 주님이 질투 속에서 말하였음을 알게 될 것이다.

▶ Thus shall my anger spend itself, and I will wreak my fury upon them till I am appeased; they shall know that I, the LORD, have spoken in my jealousy when I spend my fury upon them.

내가 분노하고 화를 내며 열화 같은 징계로 너에게 벌을 내리면, 너는 둘레에 있는 민족들에게 우셋거리와 치욕 거리가 되고, 교훈과 놀람 거리가 될 것이다. 나 주님이 말하였다.

▶ When I execute judgment upon you in anger and fury and with furious chastisements, you shall be a reproach and an object of scorn, a terrible warning to the nations that surround you. I, the LORD, have spoken!

너희에게 비참한 굶주림의 화살, 곧 너희를 파멸시키려고 멸망의 화살을 쏠 때, 나는 너희의 굶주림을 더욱 심하게 하고 너희의 양식을 끊어 버리겠다.

나는 또 너희에게 굶주림만이 아니라, 사나운 짐승들을 보내어 너희 자식들을 앗아 가게 하겠다. 그리고 흑사병과 피가 너 예루살렘을 휩쓸어 지나가게 하고, 너를 칠 칼을 끌어들이겠다. 나 주님이 말하였다.”
