미디안과 전쟁을 하다 미디안에게 야훼의 원수를 갚다 Extermination of the Midianites
1 주님께서 모세에게 이르셨다. 1 야훼께서 모세에게 말씀하셨다. 1 The LORD said to Moses,
2 “너는 미디안인들에게 이스라엘 자손들의 원수를 갚아라. 그런 다음에 너는 선조들 곁으로 가게 될 것이다.” 2 "너는 미디안 사람들에게 이스라엘 백성의 원수를 갚아라. 그 다음에야 너는 앞서간 겨레에게로 돌아가리라." 2 "Avenge the Israelites on the Midianites, and then you shall be taken to your people."
3 그래서 모세가 백성에게 일렀다. “너희 가운데에서 전쟁에 나갈 사람들은 무장하여라. 미디안으로 쳐들어가, 미디안에게 주님의 원수를 갚아야 한다. 3 모세가 백성에게 명령하였다. "너희 가운데서 싸우러 나갈 사람들은 나서라. 미디안을 쳐서 미디안에 대한 야훼의 원수를 갚아야 한다. 3 So Moses told the people, "Select men from your midst and arm them for war, to attack the Midianites and execute the LORD'S vengeance on them.
4 이스라엘의 모든 지파는 지파마다 천 명씩 전쟁에 내보내야 한다.” 4 이스라엘 모든 지파들은 전사들을 천 명씩 내보내도록 하여라." 4 From each of the tribes of Israel you shall send a band of one thousand men to war."
5 그리하여 이스라엘의 부족들에서 각 지파마다 천 명씩 헤아리니, 전쟁에 나가려고 무장한 사람이 만 이천 명이 되었다. 5 이렇게 각 지파마다 천 명씩 뽑은 이스라엘 군대의 수는 만 이천 명이 되었다. 5 From the clans of Israel, therefore, a thousand men of each tribe were levied, so that there were twelve thousand men armed for war.
6 이렇게 모세는 각 지파에서 천 명씩 전쟁에 내보냈다. 그들과 함께 엘아자르 사제의 아들 피느하스에게도 성소의 기물들과 신호용 나팔을 손에 들려 전쟁에 내보냈다. 6 모세는 각 지파에서 천 명씩 뽑아 이룬 군대를 싸움터로 내보냈다. 그들과 함께 사제 엘르아잘의 아들 비느하스에게 거룩한 기구들과 군호를 알리는 나팔을 주어 종군시켰다. 6 Moses sent them out on the campaign, a thousand from each tribe, with Phinehas, son of Eleazar, the priest for the campaign, who had with him the sacred vessels and the trumpets for sounding the alarm.
7 그들은 주님께서 모세에게 명령하신 대로 미디안과 전쟁하여, 남자들을 모두 죽였다. 7 그들은 야훼께서 모세에게 명령하신 대로 미디안을 쳐서 남자는 모조리 죽였다. 7 They waged war against the Midianites, as the LORD had commanded Moses, and killed every male among them.
8 그들은 이렇게 살해된 자들에다 미디안의 임금들까지 죽였다. 곧 에위, 레켐, 추르, 후르, 레바 등 미디안의 다섯 임금, 그리고 브오르의 아들 발라암을 칼로 쳐 죽였다. 8 이렇게 군사만 무찔러 죽였을 뿐 아니라 미디안의 왕들도 죽였는데 에위, 레켐, 수르, 후르, 레바 등 다섯 미디안 왕을 죽였고 브올의 아들 발람도 칼로 쳐죽였다. 8 Besides those slain in battle, they killed the five Midianite kings: Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur and Reba; and they also executed Balaam, son of Beor, with the sword.
9 이스라엘 자손들은 미디안의 여자들과 아이들을 사로잡아 오고, 그들의 짐승과 가축과 재산을 모조리 빼앗았다. 9 이스라엘 백성은 미디안 여인들과 아이들을 사로잡고 가축과 양떼 등 재산을 모두 약탈하고는 9 But the Israelites kept the women of the Midianites with their little ones as captives, and all their herds and flocks and wealth as spoil,
10 그리고 그들이 살던 성읍들과 고을들을 모두 불태워 버리고, 10 그들이 살던 촌락들과 천막촌들에 불을 질러버렸다. 10 while they set on fire all the towns where they had settled and all their encampments.
11 사람과 짐승은 모두 노획물과 전리품으로 삼았다. 11 그들은 사람이고 짐승이고 닥치는 대로 노략질하여 전리품으로 삼았다. 11 Then they took all the booty, with the people and beasts they had captured, and brought the captives, together with the spoils and booty,
12 그들은 포로와 전리품과 노획물을, 예리코 앞의 요르단 건너편 모압 벌판에 자리 잡은 진영으로, 모세와 엘아자르 사제와 이스라엘 자손들의 공동체에게 끌고 왔다. 12 그들은 포로와 노략질한 전리품을 예리고 근처 요르단 강 가 모압 평야에 있는 모세와 엘르아잘 사제와 이스라엘 백성 회중의 진지로 가져왔다. 12 to Moses and the priest Eleazar and to the Israelite community at their camp on the plains of Moab, along the Jericho stretch of the Jordan.
13 모세와 엘아자르 사제와 공동체의 수장들이 모두 그들을 맞으러 진영 밖으로 나갔다. 13 모세와 엘르아잘 사제와 회중의 대표들은 그들을 맞으러 진지 밖으로 나갔다. 13 When Moses and the priest Eleazar, with all the princes of the community, went outside the camp to meet them,
14 그런데 모세가 전쟁에서 돌아오는 군대 지휘관들, 곧 천인대장들과 백인대장들에게 화를 내었다. 14 그러나 모세는 싸움터에서 돌아오는 군대 지휘관들, 천인대장, 백인대장들을 보고 화가 나서 14 Moses became angry with the officers of the army, the clan and company commanders, who were returning from combat.
15 그들에게 모세가 말하였다. “너희가 여자들을 모두 살려 두다니! 15 야단쳤다. "어찌하여 이렇게 여자들을 모두 살려주었느냐? 15 "So you have spared all the women!" he exclaimed.
16 프오르에서 그 일이 일어났을 때, 발라암의 말에 따라 이스라엘 자손들에게 주님을 배신하게 하여, 주님의 공동체에게 재앙이 내리게 한 것이 바로 이 여자들이다. 16 브올에서 그 사건이 일어났을 때 이것들이 바로 발람의 말을 듣고 이스라엘 백성을 꾀지 않았느냐? 야훼를 배신하게 한 것들이 바로 이것들이 아니냐? 야훼의 회중에 염병이 내린 것도 이것들 때문이 아니냐? 16 "Why, they are the very ones who on Balaam's advice prompted the unfaithfulness of the Israelites toward the LORD in the Peor affair, which began the slaughter of the LORD'S community.
17 그러니 이제 아이들 가운데 남자는 다 죽여라. 남자와 잠자리를 같이하여 사내를 아는 여자도 모두 죽여라. 17 아이들 가운데서도 사내 녀석들은 당장 죽여라. 남자를 안 일이 있는 여자도 다 죽여라. 17 Slay, therefore, every male child and every woman who has had intercourse with a man.
18 다만 남자와 잠자리를 같이하지 않아 사내를 안 일이 없는 여자아이들은 너희를 위하여 살려 두어라. 18 다만 남자를 안 일이 없는 처녀들은 너희를 위하여 살려두어라. 18 But you may spare and keep for yourselves all girls who had no intercourse with a man.
19 그리고 너희는 이레 동안 진영 밖에 머물러야 한다. 사람을 죽였거나 살해된 자의 몸에 닿은 이는, 너희만이 아니라 너희 포로들까지 사흘째 되는 날과 이레째 되는 날에 자신을 정화해야 한다. 19 그리고 너희는 칠 일간 진지 밖에 머물러 있어야 한다. 사람을 죽였거나 전사자에게 닿은 사람은 모두 사흗날과 이렛날에 부정을 벗는 예식을 올려야 한다. 19 "Moreover, you shall stay outside the camp for seven days, and those of you who have slain anyone or touched anyone slain in battle shall purify yourselves on the third and on the seventh day. This applies both to you and to your captives.
20 또 너희는 모든 옷가지, 모든 가죽 제품, 염소 털로 짠 모든 것, 나무로 만든 모든 것도 정화해야 한다.” 20 또 옷가지들, 가죽 제품 염소 털로 짠 것, 나무로 만든 온갖 것도 부정을 벗겨야 한다." 20 You shall also purify every article of cloth, leather, goats' hair, or wood."
21 엘아자르 사제가 전쟁에 나갔던 군인들에게 말하였다. “주님께서 모세에게 명령하신 법 규정은 이러하다. 21 사제 엘르아잘이 싸우고 돌아온 군인들에게 일렀다. "야훼께서 모세에게 명령하신 법규는 이러하다. 21 Eleazar the priest told the soldiers who had returned from combat: "This is what the law, as prescribed by the LORD to Moses, ordains:
22 금, 은, 구리, 철, 주석, 납 등 22 금, 은, 구리, 쇠, 주석, 납 같은 22 Whatever can stand fire, such as gold, silver, bronze, iron, tin and lead,
23 불에 들어갈 수 있는 것은 모두 불 속에 넣었다가 꺼내면 깨끗하게 되지만, 다시 정화의 물로 정화되어야 한다. 불에 들어갈 수 없는 것은 모두 물에 담갔다가 꺼내면 된다. 23 불에 타지 않을 것은 불에 넣었다 꺼내면 깨끗해지지만, 다시 더러움을 씻는 물로 부정을 벗겨야 한다. 불에 타버릴 것은 무엇이든지 물에 담갔다 꺼내면 된다. 23 you shall put into the fire, that it may become clean; however, it must also be purified with lustral water. But whatever cannot stand fire you shall put into the water.
24 너희의 옷을 이레째 되는 날에 빨면 너희가 정결하게 된다. 그런 다음에 진영 안으로 들어올 수 있다.” 24 옷은 이레째 되는 날 빨아서 깨끗이 하여야 한다. 그래야 진 안으로 들어올 수 있다." 24 On the seventh day you shall wash your clothes, and then you will again be clean. After that you may enter the camp."
포로와 전리품의 분배 Division of the Booty
25 주님께서 모세에게 말씀하셨다. 25 야훼께서 모세에게 말씀하셨다. 25 The LORD said to Moses:
26 “너는 엘아자르 사제와 공동체의 각 가문의 우두머리들과 함께, 사람이든 짐승이든 사로잡아 온 전리품의 수를 세어라. 26 "너와 엘르아잘 사제와 회중의 집안 어른들은 노략물과 사로잡아 온 사람과 짐승들을 세어보아라. 26 "With the help of the priest Eleazar and of the heads of the ancestral houses, count up all the human captives and the beasts that have been taken;
27 그리고 너는 그 전리품을 나누어, 반은 전쟁에 나갔던 전사들에게, 반은 온 공동체에게 나누어 주어라. 27 그리고 너는 그것을 반으로 갈라서 반은 싸우러 나갔던 전사에게, 반은 온 회중에게 나누어주어라. 27 then divide them evenly, giving half to those who took active part in the war by going out to combat, and half to the rest of the community.
28 그런 다음에 전쟁에 나갔던 병사들에게서 주님을 위하여 공물을 떼어 내어라. 사람이든 소든 나귀든 양이든 그 오백분의 일을, 28 그리고 싸우러 나갔던 군인들에게서 야훼에게 드릴 헌납품을 떼어내어라. 사람이든 소든 나귀든 양이든 그 오백 분의 일을 28 You shall levy a tax for the LORD on the warriors who went out to combat: one out of every five hundred persons, oxen, asses and sheep
29 그들이 차지한 절반에서 받아, 주님을 위한 예물로 엘아자르 사제에게 주어라. 29 그들이 차지한 것의 절반에서 떼어내어 엘르아잘 사제에게 주어라. 이것이 야훼에게 바칠 예물이다. 29 in their half of the spoil you shall turn over to the priest Eleazar as a contribution to the LORD.
30 이스라엘 자손들이 차지한 절반에서는, 사람이든 소든 나귀든 양이든 어떤 가축이든 그 오십분의 일을 받아, 주님의 성소를 보살피는 레위인들에게 주어라.” 30 야훼의 성막을 보살피는 레위인들에게는 이스라엘 백성이 차지한 것의 절반에서 사람이든 소든 나귀든 양이든 그 모든 것의 오십분의 일을 떼어주어라." 30 From the Israelites' half you shall take one out of every fifty persons, and the same from the different beasts, oxen, asses and sheep, and give them to the Levites, who have charge of the LORD'S Dwelling."
31 모세와 엘아자르 사제는 주님께서 모세에게 명령하신 대로 하였다. 31 모세와 사제 엘르아잘은 야훼께서 모세에게 명하신 대로 하였다. 31 So Moses and the priest Eleazar did this, as the LORD had commanded Moses.
32 군사들이 빼앗은 것 가운데에서 남은 전리품은 양이 육십칠만 오천 마리, 32 군대가 약탈해 온 전리품 가운데 살아 남은 것은 양이 육십칠만 오천 마리, 32 This booty, what was left of the loot which the soldiers had taken, amounted to six hundred and seventy-five thousand sheep,
33 소가 칠만 이천 마리, 33 소가 칠만 이천 마리, 33 seventy-two thousand oxen,
34 나귀가 육만 천 마리이고, 34 나귀가 육만 천 마리요, 34 sixty-one thousand asses,
35 사람은, 남자와 잠자리를 같이하지 않아 사내를 안 일이 없는 여자가 전부 삼만 이천 명이었다. 35 사람은 삼만 이천 명이었는데, 이들은 모두 남자를 안 일이 없는 처녀들이었다. 35 and thirty-two thousand girls who were still virgins.
36 이 가운데에서 절반이 전쟁에 나갔던 이들의 몫이 되었는데, 양의 수는 삼십삼만 칠천오백 마리였고, 36 그 절반은 싸우러 나갔던 자들의 몫으로 돌아갔는데 양이 삼십삼만 칠천오백 마리였다. 36 The half that fell to those who had gone out to combat was: three hundred and thirty-seven thousand five hundred sheep,
37 이 양들 가운데에서 주님을 위한 공물은 육백일흔다섯 마리였다. 37 그 양떼 가운데서 야훼께 드린 헌납품은 육백일흔다섯 마리였다. 37 of which six hundred and seventy-five fell as tax to the LORD;
38 소는 삼만 육천 마리였는데, 주님을 위한 공물은 일흔두 마리였고, 38 소는 삼만 육천 마리였는데 그 가운데서 야훼께 드린 헌납품은 일흔두 마리였다. 38 thirty-six thousand oxen, of which seventy-two fell as tax to the LORD;
39 나귀는 삼만 오백 마리였는데, 주님을 위한 공물은 예순한 마리였다. 39 나귀는 삼만 오백 마리였는데 그 가운데서 야훼께 드린 헌납품은 예순한 마리였다. 39 thirty thousand five hundred asses, of which sixty-one fell as tax to the LORD;
40 또 사람은 만 육천 명이었는데, 주님을 위한 공물은 서른두 명이었다. 40 사람은 만 육천 명인데, 그 가운데서 야훼께 헌납된 사람은 서른두 명이었다. 40 and sixteen thousand persons, of whom thirty-two fell as tax to the LORD.
41 모세는 주님께서 자기에게 명령하신 대로 이 공물, 곧 주님을 위한 예물을 엘아자르 사제에게 주었다. 41 모세는 야훼께서 지시하신 대로 야훼께 예물로 드리는 헌납품을 엘르아잘 사제에게 주었다. 41 The taxes contributed to the LORD, Moses gave to the priest Eleazar, as the LORD had commanded him.
42 모세가 전쟁에 나갔던 사람들에게서 떼어 이스라엘 자손들에게 나누어 준 나머지 절반, 42 모세가 군인들에게서 떼어 이스라엘 백성에게 나누어준 나머지 절반은 다음과 같다. 42 The half for the other Israelites, which fell to the community when Moses had taken it from the soldiers, was:
43 곧 공동체가 받은 나머지 절반은 양이 삼십삼만 칠천오백 마리, 43 회중이 떼어 받은 몫은 양이 삼십삼만 칠천오백 마리, 43 three hundred and thirty-seven thousand five hundred sheep,
44 소가 삼만 육천 마리, 44 소 삼만 육천 마리, 44 thirty-six thousand oxen,
45 나귀가 삼만 오백 마리, 45 나귀 삼만 오백 마리, 45 thirty thousand five hundred asses,
46 사람이 만 육천 명이었다. 46 사람 만 육천 명이었다. 46 and sixteen thousand persons.
47 모세는 주님께서 자기에게 명령하신 대로, 이스라엘 자손들이 차지한 그 절반에서, 곧 사람이든 짐승이든 그 오십분의 일을 받아, 주님의 성소를 보살피는 레위인들에게 주었다. 47 모세는 이스라엘 백성에게 돌아가는 절반에서 사람이나 짐승을 오십분의 일씩 떼어 야훼의 성막을 보살피는 레위인들에게 주었다. 이렇게 모세는 야훼께서 지시하신 대로 하였다. 47 From this, the Israelites' share, Moses, as the LORD had ordered, took one out of every fifty, both of persons and of beasts, and gave them to the Levites, who had charge of the LORD'S Dwelling.
지휘관들의 봉헌물 Gifts of the Officers
48 군부대의 지휘관들, 곧 천인대장들과 백인대장들이 모세에게 와서, 48 군대 지휘관들, 천인대장, 백인대장들이 모세에게 와서 48 Then the officers who had been clan and company commanders of the army came up to Moses
49 그에게 말하였다. “당신의 이 종들이 저희 수하에 있는 병사들의 수를 세어 보았는데, 우리 쪽에서는 한 사람도 실종되지 않았습니다. 49 보고하였다. "소관들이 부하들을 점검해 보았는데 한 사람도 없어지지 않았습니다. 49 and said to him, "Your servants have counted up the soldiers under our command, and not one is missing.
50 그래서 저희가 주님 앞에서 속죄하려고, 저마다 자기가 얻은 금패물, 곧 팔고리, 팔찌, 인장 가락지, 귀걸이, 구슬 장식을 주님께 예물로 가져왔습니다.” 50 우리는 그 일이 고마워서 야훼께 예물을 가져왔습니다. 야훼 앞에서 우리 몸의 죄를 벗고자 저마다 얻은 대로 금으로 만든 팔고리, 팔찌, 인장반지, 귀걸이, 목걸이를 이렇게 가져왔습니다." 50 So, to make atonement for ourselves before the LORD, each of us will bring as an offering to the LORD some gold article he has picked up, such as an anklet, a bracelet, a ring, an earring, or a necklace."
51 모세와 엘아자르 사제는 그들에게서 금으로 된 그 모든 세공품을 받았다. 51 모세와 사제 엘르아잘은 그들에게서 금으로 만든 온갖 세공품을 받았다. 51 Moses and the priest Eleazar accepted this gold from them, all of it in well-wrought articles.
52 이렇게 천인대장들과 백인대장들에게서 받아 주님께 예물로 바친 금은 모두 만 육천칠백오십 세켈이었다. 52 그들, 천인대장과 백인대장들이 야훼께 예물로 가져온 금은 모두 만 육천칠백오십 세겔이나 되었다. 52 The gold that they gave as a contribution to the LORD amounted in all to sixteen thousand seven hundred and fifty shekels. This was from the clan and company commanders;
53 그 밖의 군인들은 저마다 자기의 노획물을 가지고 있었다. 53 그러나 사병들은 약탈한 것을 저마다 제 손에 넣었다. 53 what the common soldiers had looted each one kept for himself.
54 모세와 엘아자르 사제는 천인대장들과 백인대장들에게서 금을 받아, 주님 앞에 바칠 이스라엘 자손들의 기념 제물로서 만남의 천막 안으로 가져갔다. 54 모세와 사제 엘르아잘은 천인대장과 백인대장에게서 금을 받아가지고 만남의 장막으로 가서 야훼께 바치며 이스라엘 백성을 기억해 달라고 빌었다. 54 Moses, then, and the priest Eleazar accepted the gold from the clan and company commanders, and put it in the meeting tent as a memorial for the Israelites before the LORD.
